TTiosx 8; CLSxariEtD Railroad. A meet

held on the th instant, in Phillips&urg, at

rett Jamea Montgomery, Engineer; and
William Eagahaw appointed Secretary of the
Board. By a reference to an advertisement
la to-day's Journal, it will Le seen that the
engineer la to proceed to the immediate loca
tioa of the road, and that fire dollars on each
share is to le paid to the Treasurer within
thirty data. This looks like going to wori
with the right kind of spirit, and no doubt can
wy longer cxi3t that this railroad will Le
pushed forward to a speedy completion. Of
this we are the more fally convinced when we
take into consideration the tact that the in
dividuals who now have the control of it, are
men o! nndonbted business capacity, indom
itable energy and unfaltering perseverance.
Att!stioh is directed to the various new
advertisements which appear In to-day's Jour
nal. Dr. M. Wood offers his professional ser
vices to the citizens of this place' and neigh
borhood. D. O. Crouch, physician, has loca
ted himself la Curwensville. Milo II oyt of
fers his farm, a mile and a half irom this town,
for sale. A notice relative to the estate of
Philip Davis, dee'd, as well as several other
notices, will also bo found among the new ad
vertisements. . .
Special Notice. There are quite a number
of accounts standing open for the first year's
subscription to' the Journal. We would re
spectfully suggest that these be settled during
th ensuing Court week. Payment is to be
made to the present proprietor. A consider
able number of our patrons have paid us for
the present volume, for which we tender them
oor thanks ; and wo would be pleased if as
many as possible would daring next week coniu
and "do likewise." Roll in gentlemen don't
by afraid glad to see you.
Handsome Boquet. We were, a few even
ings since, the recipient of a handsome boquct
from some fair incognita. We tender her our
warmest thanks, and can assure her that our
heart was in a state of great commotion for
ome hours after its arrival. Who wouldn't
be an editor, when boquets, widding cakes,
the smiles of beauty, and all that sort of thing,
are showered upon him ?
Thb FariT Prospects, in this section, of
couutry, are very poor so far as relates to
peaches and plums. The peach trees were
nearly all killed by the severe cold of the past
w inter, and" many of tho plum trees met with
a similar fate. The apple trees, we believe,
are not injured, and will probably produce
their usual quantity of fruit. -
New Goods. W. F. Irwin has received an
extensive stock of Seasonable Goods, which
lie oilers to the public on the most reasonable
terms. Those in need of articles in his line
would do well to call soon, as they are passing
off rapidly. See advertisement.
Tkupsraxck Meeting. The President of
the Washingtonian Temperance Society, has
requested us to state, that a Quarterly meet
ing will be held at the Court House on Mon
day evening, May 19th. A general attendance
is requested. Adu;e3se will be delivered.
Accident. A small son of Mr. Hisey, of
Lawrence township, fell from a hay-loft, on
last Sunday a week, broke Lis collar-bone and
dislocated his shoulder. It is feared that the
fractures arc so severe as to place them beyond
-successful surgical treatment.
Max Paeties. Notwithstanding that "win
ter lingering, chills the lap of May," the young
folks of this place have resolved to indulge in
the pleasures that are peculiar to "the merry
tuonth." Several parties, we understand, are
to come ofl during the present week.
Ths Roads, which have been in a very bad
condition for some weeks, are improving a lit
tle tinder the influence of sunshine and wind.
They are, however, yet far from being pleas
ant to travel over.
AsTi-Coaaosiva Amalgam Pexs. Mr.C. D.
Watson left at onr office several of these pens.

cue and freedom.
Hit. Bosewell, Minister of the United
Brethren in Christ, will preach on next Sab

of the most awful lire s that ever occurred in

commenced in the large paper warehouse of
Jessop and Moore, Ho. 21 North Street above

the destruction was terrible. .The wind was

J. A. RHODES. Esa : Dear Sir As I took your
medicine to sell on consignment, '-no cure no pay,'
I take pleasuro in stating its cfieeU as reported to
me by three brothers who live in this place, and
their testimony is a fair specimen of all I have re
ceived :
XT. S Conklin told reo i;I had taken nine hot
ties of Christie's Ague Balsa r , and continually run
Hnwn while uaini? it until ev luczs and liver were
Congested to that degreo that blood discharged
from mv mouth and bowels, so that all thought it
impossible for me to live throngh another chill.
Tho doctors too did nil they could for rue, but tho't
I must die. Nothing did me any good until 1 got
Rhode's Fever and Ague Cure, which at once le
liered mo of the distress and nausea at my stomaeh
and pain in my head and bowels, and produced a
permanent cure in a snort time.
U. M. Conklin savs : "I had been taking medi
rin of a o-ood a doctor a we have in our county,
and taken any quantity of quinine and specifics
without any eooa rcsnit, irom jiu Augus
December. But aeeicg how nicely it operated on
iny brother. I got a bottle of Rhodes' Fever and A
guo Cure, which effected a. permanent cure by us
ing two-thirds of a bottle."
S. M. Conklin was not here, but both the other
brothers say his case was the same as U. M's, I
sold ha medicine to both the same day, and the
care was as speedy from th same small quantity,
and I might so specify, lonrs with respect,

The above speaks for itself. Gooa proof as it is,
it is of no better tenor than the vast number of like
certificates I have already published, and the still
s-reatnramount that iscoiitinualiy pouring in to me.
One thing more. Last year I had occasion to cau
tion the public in these words : "Inoticfonejirvi
