Advice to Correspondents.
When, writing to a publisher, oralt your
name; let Lisa guess who you are from your
handwriting.
Carefully avoid placing the name of your
post office, county, or State, upon your letter,
lest, by 50 doing, you should betray your
whereabout 3.
When about to change your rest Jencc, and
wish the direction changed, instruct the pub
lisher ns follows. Sir, hereafter send my pv
per to . , and much oblige yours, etc.- .
Don't let him know yonr former address. ' He
may hunt th:it ant from art..-ng a hundred
thousand others.. I"o matter if it occupies a
week; he may have nothing else to do.
When you write to a friend, requesting, an
answer by return mail, leave him to prepay
the jiostage , on the answer, r.3 you deserve
some compensation for tin; pleasure yon afford
him.
Avoid carrying small change; you might
spend it. r The postmaster will be quite de
lighted with the privilege of trusting you; he
would not be so mean as to charge three
cents. '
.When calling. far a let! or at the. post-office,
always ask: "Any; king for me?" Don't give
your name; and .when informed '-No,'" don't
believe it, but put yourself into an agony- of
surprise and wonder, and ask the postmaster
when he expects one for you. Should he ask
you from whom you are looking for r. com
munication, tell him Irons the West. JJe will
then understand.
When you rerinest letters directed to the
j ear
of some friend whom vrn are r,:nt- to
j viir, ask him to send his boy to the pott-office
i "several times a d.iy to inquire. . lie will deem
