...FROM HAVANA. (
The Cahnwha: at .New Orleans, brings the
following letter to th Picijune : .' - ,
'Havana, Hay 1, 133-3. Com.-llcCauley,
Capt. Eagle, of the Priuceton ; Capt. Stric
ling, of the San Jacinto , and Mr. Stribling.
Commodore's Secretary, dined with Gen.
Concha one afternoon List week ; Capt. Dob
bie, of the British war steamer Bazzard, the
Spanish Admiral and the Captain of the Port,
were also present. Military bands performed
la the Palace yard du:ingthe afternoon, and
the dinner is understood to have been a very
recherche aihur.
The Spaniards now crow over the citizens of
the United States here, saying a dinner and
bottle of champagne, given to the officers why
may be sent here from the United States, will
be considered as ample atonement for any in
sult ottered to the United States flag, or inju
ry to their citizens.
" The 1'rinceton has since proceeded to sea,
and I have heard the remark more than once
nade by Spaniards that Capt. Eagle had wait
ed a long time for a dinner, and now that he
had got it he was off, although I understand
the Princeton is expected to return here w ith
in a fortnight.
We are alt at a loss to know the ol ject of
the visit cf San Jacinto. Com. McCauley has
certain'; not madj any demand for redress
upon this government, and I ran enabled to
add upon the best authority that had he made
any none would have been given. I write this
p.dvisedly, knowing such to hive been deter
mined upon by the Government of this Island.
I have heard it stated that a royal decree is
about to he issued, by whi:!i no person will be
compelled to observe any of the numerous
fast days kepi i:i this island, Sunday, Good
Fri l 'V, etc.. of course excepted. I am in
clined to thins, however, the report is uot
likely to be confirmed.
The volunteers, I understand, are to com
mence ballpracticetbisweek.ai'd alsothit they
are to have a new uniform, and that colors are
fo be presented to each regiment, to fight un
der which to the death each man will hare to
swear. Thus the Creoles who

The Legislature of Michigan, r-t its list S2S
sion passed r,n act providing tor the formation
if toe Si -."v State or Territory of Superior.
This new Territory embraces all the vast es
teut of territory on the south shore of Lake
Superior and m.ith of Lake Michigan and
Wisconsin which now composes a part of
Michigan. It is entirely separated from it by
I. ike Huron arid .Michigan, and has no natural
connection with the rest of that State. It is
the scat of the great mineral w.-.-ltl. oi the na
tion. Its mines of copper and iron are unsur
passed 1 y any in I ho world. It has been the
desire of the inhabitant to sever their politi
cal connexion wi;h Mi chigan, as their inter
ests were diverse, and they were so far distant
from tha ctpital and business portion of the
State. Michigan has heretofore refused to
g;a:.t their requert, but it stems a sober see
on:! thought has brought an nssont.
Two years ago Wisconsin passed an act
granting the northern pnrt of its territory to
th-j proposed State cf Superior. The .propo
sed northern boundary of Wisconsin ajid
southern line of Superior cxtei.ds lrom the
Mississippi, at the mouth of th; Chippewa riv
er, up this last named river until it strikes the
L'nited States correction lino between towns
20 and SI, and then following that liny east to
Green Bty, which it intersects near the mouth
of Brule" river 'of Green 13 iy. This would
throw all the country on the St. Croix into the
proposed new State a fine agricultural region,
which would find its account in being connec
ted politically with Superior.
T1.I3 territory from Wisconsin and from
Michigan will form the future St.tte of Supe
rior. It will extend frtr.i the wesiern point of
Lake Superior, enil r,ici:.g ali the south .shore
t'lereoi. to the St. 31 try s river ana tire
em !or'irs of Lakes Huron and Michigan.
'j !: S 'if ' will be on if ? eastern border, ami
the grest Mines of copper and iron will be on
its TLo-thcm line. Its wet c-rn ' boundary will
he to St. Croix river. !t ii destined to be one
of the most interesting, wealthy, and i:upr
tmt portions of the Union. The State of Mi
chig n and Wisconsin being agreed to this ar
rar.g'-ment, Congress, by virtue of the power
vested is: it ' the thir l s.-etiun ofth'? fourth
article of the Con.-titution, has ' Authority to
erect it into a Territory, or to admit itat ence
as a State. Rochester Dan.
