The Annual Fair of the State Agricultural t.ocioty,
was br. , ught to a close at Pittsburg on taturday inst.
Tho address was delivered on Friday, by Gan. Will
A. Stokes, of Westmoreland county, and woe such a
production as could only emanate from a gentleman,
who, with a practical knowledge of agrionl'ore, cam.
binos a vigorous mind and elegant and polished
tastes. We learn that the total receipts of the socie
ty roach the handsome cum of $13,000, which we
suppose will be ample to defray expenses and
place the society in a better p,,ifion than it has been
for some years. Tho admirable management cf the
affairs et the ,uciety during the set year, acid the
complete success of this exhibition both pecuniarily
and otherwise, will, withi - out doubt, have the happy
effect of restoring tliat public confidence lost turough
tho mismanagement--if not something wcriie--and
misfortune attending former operations af the society
which drained the treasury and withdrew the interest
of the farming community. The completc success of
this exhibition is mainly due to the energy of the

Dire. Julia Dean Bayne
This talented actress will make her second appear
antic at Foster's National Theatre this evening, in
the character of the Countess in Sheridan Knowles'
play of " Love, or the Countess and the Serf," o play
admirably adapted to the display of her great and
acknowledged ability. The play itself, aside from
this lady's personation of the chief character, is
grand, portraying beJntifully the impression made
by one of "nature's noblemen" upon the heart of
" a lady of high degree," and the conflict between
love and pride. How happily one of the characters
is made to describe true dignity :
Riches impoverish, that divVe respect'

Themselves, and not their stations, when some knee,
That hardly bowed to them in plentitude,

The piece contains many other passages of beauty,
and ie considered by many as the masterpiece of its
celebrated author. It was first produced at Drury
Lane Theatre is 1839, when Mr. Anderson person.,
aced Huon, Ellen Tree the Countess, and Madame
Vestris Catherine. It has since been favorably re
ceived all over the United States, though many alter
ations have been made in the teat by managers, to
suit circumstances. Mrs. Shaw gained a celebrity by
her fine conception and faultless delineation of the
character of the piece, and Mrs. Rayne has the rep
utation of equaling her in it- rPpresentation. We
the will be well sustaine I ir. to oisio charae

Messrs. /wens, McFarland do Co., has entered suit
against Mr. Tnemits H. Wilson, of Harrisburg, Pa.,
fur an infringement of his patent. Tho suit was
brought in Louisville, Ky., where Mr. Wilson had his
machine on exhibition.
A Cage was cn trial in the District Court, yoster.

has been oecepted, and that the preliminaries of a
race will be arranged between the " Cassidy " and
the " Reindeer" or " Gullett " in a few days.

Weekly Review of Pittsburgh Markets!
Pirrstitmon, October 8, 1858.
We have hut little change to record in the business of
the city during the past week. Business has, we may say,
improved, and during the early part of the week uur mer
chants were busily engaged, many visitors to the State Fair
taking advantage of their presence here to make their fall
purchases. In prices tI, changes are very trifling; indeed
so much so cc to 1,3 t,c't I .; I y worth'notirg.
The river, in consequt uco of the late rains, hai risen
some, there being at present about (oar feet in the channel.
Some few boats are loading for below, and are getting plenty
of ft eight. We fear, however, this rise will not give much.
Impetus to !meiness, 114 it Will scarcely extend as far as Cin
und unload n further rim) Occurs the boats now lead
lug will have sortie dilliculty In reaching that point.
Money matters have undergone no change. Money is
abundant, and can be had at reasonable rates on good
security. The rates of Exchange are 1 , ./ 4 per cent. premium
for Eastern, and par for Western.

I do must earnestly hope that you will adopt some plan

t have been in the usblt of using it myself, and in my faint

neighborhood, and upon all occasions have found them to
answer the purpose for which they were administered. My
wife has b-en very much afflicted with nick headache, and,
by using one-half of on of the pills, has uniformly found
relief. I think it superfluous to enumerate toe different
