The distance from the after side of tie mainmast to the after side of the forward stern post will he about Bo feet, and the distance between the torward and the after stern poets will be sevuu lent. The depth from the load water line to the top of the heel under the propeller will be 12 feet 1 inch. The proposal must be accompsuied by full specilicatimia and general drawings, having the position of the centre of gravity of the machinery, boilers, kc., marked on them, giving also the capacity of the steam cylinders, pressure of steam, area of foot and delivery valves, and ofiair pomp and outboard delivery valves, space for steam above the water line of the boilers, the lire and grate furnace, also the diam eter, pitch, surface, and kind el propeller and other Kite clpal points, that comparisons can readily be made. The terms of payment will be that, when one-half of the materials and labor provided for in the contract shall have been completed to the eatisfaction of the department, there will be made a payment of part of the whole amount of the contract. When the whole shall have been completed rind ready for erection in the ship a further payment of will be made; end when a satisfactory trial of seven OAF. seentive days shall Lays been made, then a further payment ot y ; and when the ship shall have performed eatisfacterily at sea for a period of three months, the remalaingaum /dual be paid. The total weight for machinery, appendages, 1 oilers and water in them, bunkers, tools, spare pieces, and coal must not exceed SlO tons of 2,210 pouuds each. The distance from the after-side of the mainmast to the aiter-side of the forward stern post will be about 76 feet. The depth from the load-water to the top of the keel under the propellor will be 9 feet 2 inches.
