PEOPLE'S AN') SOREHEAD CON VRIEITION Yesterday was a great day for Conventions: Be sides the True Press Convontion noted elseithero, the delegates to a convention which met on tho '2.21 of Juno and adjourned until August 250, being what are commonly known as tho Know Nothing Scre heads reassembled. Ihey called themselves the Peeple's Convention and originally organized under an anonymous cell for a Convention of thoso "4po sod to the present corrupt administration ; ()Weed to taxation, and opposed to things in general, and ezpecially to the Republican nominations. At half-past ten o'clock Major Willock took the Chair with the anneuneement that the "delegates to tho Convention of the 23d of June, which adjourned until to-nay, would please take their seats. There was another convention called for to-day, and this other convention had buttes got another room, so as not to get mired up." Aftzr waiting for some time, Capt. William Ward announced that there had been a call issued for an. ~t b,c? convention to meet to-day for the same pur. p. se as this one, viz: to oppose taxation. The ob jects of the two conventions were identical, and ho moved that come measures be taken to join the two conventions. Major Wilke!: remarked that the Convention was not yet organized. The list of delegates had not been called. Mr. Hiram Callow, Secretary No. 2 of last Con vention, said That Thos. F. Wilson, Esq.. Secretary No. 2 went as re , laL :0.1, and returned with Secretary No. 1. The list of delegates was called over, and Mr. Hiram Callow moved :hat a committee bo appointed to " prepare business" for this convention. Mr. Sutherland a:ked what they meant by " pro paring business." Mr. Callow said that the thing seemed to be "jumbled up somehow or other," and ho thought a committee of a few could prepare some regular order of business. it was carried by a vote of 2 ayes ; aces, none. The Committee was as follows : H. P. Callow, Wm. iVard, James A. Sutherland, Hiram Hulz, George CI3 The C-,mmitree on Ba. , izass rcported soet..e rasolu lions, which very adopted. A long and desultory discussion took place about " this " and " the other " Convention, and finally appointed a Committee to confer with a similar Com. mince from •' the other " Convention, relative to .int ne•icn of the are bodies. The "other" C:n vention "repudiated" the People's Convention after they had agreed to go in on the "Anti-Tax basis." While things were getting fixed, a good deal of hrilliant sparring took place betvrcen Major Willock, Chairman, and Thomas F. Wilson, Esq., one of the Secretaries, relative to points of order. In the afternoon, after it had barn ascertained that the Anti-Tax end the People's Convention could'nt lase, the Convention appointed a committee on reso lution, Col. Hiram Holtz, Chairman, and proceeded to business. While the Committee were preparing tLeir refoluticas, Capt. William Werd was called on ler a speech and " p,tehed in." He denounced in unmc.-e:e•l zerurs the Republican, Democratic and A n:i.l-tliiro;l3 Convention, stigmatizing the leaders Z. 1.1 hounds, tricksters, political guerrillas, ko. The cry et " ti-tay.," "anti-tax," " anti.taa:" was all a lanioliog—a cloak to co :coal the political designs of the Lc.iind-." He said Ca....re wore two Republicans to oneDeinacrat in the county opposed to levying a tax for Fa.iread purposes. Ito said the action of the loci railroad Convention, in refusing to unite with this convention, war foolich, beyond precedent, and dicclosed :he "felonious" motive of the lead ers of that body, which was transparent to any coo who was present when the vote was taken. The t trines ther , , who voted nay, were plainly to be :eon. Capt. W. having cc.nrhded, On metier. the Cc oventioa procceded to nominate and vote cit•a rose fur county officer , . Capt. FAHNESTOCK & CO., W H °LES A.LE DRUG6III3I'S, No. GO corner of Wood and Fourth Streets, PITIBBuRou, PRNN'A AS AN EFFICIENT, safe and convenient tonic, cathartic and auti•dyspeptic medicine, these Pills are re•conimentled to the public by the Lumor propri etor, (Wt. WILSON,) with a confidence such at a long con• tinned and careful trial of them in an ample practice war rants. In their operation as a cathartic, they Influence more the tnotory and less ale socerning power of the bowels thou any other combination in common use. AS A TONIC—They agree with the most delicate stom ach, removing nausea, pain, and debility from that organ, and through it impart tone and vigor to the whole system. AS AN ANTI-DYSPEPTIO---They neutralise and inter rapt the formation of acids, check fermentation, and pre vent the elimination of gases from the food in the stomach, —the direct consequences of chemical action,—an action which should never exist in the human stomach. From these peculiarities in the Pills, a person taking them may expect a free, full and natural evacuation of the bowels, without pain, nausea, local or general debility, or that dis gusting sickness or costtveness—the usual affects which at tend or follow the use of other ptuges, CETIF.
