The distance from the after aide of the mainmast to the
after side of the forward stern poet will be about 80 feet,
and the distance between the forward and the after stern
poets will be seven feet. The depth from the load water
rise to the top of the keel under the propeller will be 12
feet 1 Inch.
The proposal must be accompanied by full specifications
and general drawings, having the position of the centre of
gravity of the machinery, boiler; .4.c., marked on them,
giving also the capitchy of the steam cylinders, pressure of
steam, arm of foot and delivery valve; and of air pump and
outboard delivery• valves, space for steam above the water
line of the boiler..., the fire and grate turnace, also the diem•
etp.r, pitch, surface, and kind of propeller and other prin
cipal points, that coo.iparisons can readily be made.
The term+ of payment all Le that, when one-half of the
materials and labor provided for in the contract shall have
been completed to the satisfaction of toe department, there
will be made a payment of jy par; of the whole amount of
the contract. When the whole shall have been completed
and ready forerection la the ship a further payment of Y O
will be madet , and when a satisfactory trial of seven Con
secutive days shall hays been made, then a further payment
of V e ; and when the ship shall have performed satisfactorily
at sea for a period of three mouths, the remaining sum shall
be paid. The repairs necessary during this period from de

the contractor

place for the steam machinery and appendages, and placing
the same on board each c.f . the screw sloops-of-war bul.ding
at the navy yards at Boston, Piniadelphia, and Pensacola
under the si.ecifications and conditions above stated, with
variattona in the following particulars, viz:

mast not exceed 310,tons of 2.240 pounds each. The length
occupied by the ongnes and boilers will commence 14 feet
abaft the maintuant, and thenco extend forward a distance of
46 feet.
The distance from the after-side of the mainmast to the
after-side of the forward stern post will he about 7h feet.
The depth from the load water line to the top of the keel
and.er the propellor will be 9 feet 2 inches.
