The terms of payment will be that, when one-half of the materials and labor provided for in the contract shall have been completed to the satisfaction of the department, there will be made a payment of l e n part of the whole amount of the contract. When the whole shall have been eompleted and ready for erection In the ship a further payment of Y e will be made; and when a eatistactory trial of seven con secutive days shall have been made, then a further payment of ta: ; and whoa the ship shall have performed satisfactorily at sea for n period of three months, the remaining tam shall be paid. The repaint necessary during this period from de fective workmanship or materials will be at the expense of the contractor. it is to be unilerotood that if the weight and other condi tions specified in the contract bo not complied With, the de partment is to be at liberty to reject the whole machinery, the contractor to be at the expense of taking it ont of the ship and refund whatever amount of the contract price may have teen paid. The length occupied by the engines and boilers will commence 14 feet abaft the mainmast, and thence extend forward a distance of 46 feet. The distance from the after-side of the mainmast to the atter-aide of the forward stern poet will ho about 76 feet. The depth from the load-water line to the top of the keel under the propellor will be 9 feet 2 inches.
