SYKES, (office lul Penn street, Pittsburgh,) notice with
much pleasure the above card of Dr. S. S. Fitch, of Now York,
and feel It to be their duty also ti cautionathe invalid pub.
tic against impositions which seem daily increasing. Hs_
cant developments in New York, of the frauds practiced by
"old Dr. IL James," the "retired physician, whose eaufle of
life have nearly run out," and of "Dr. truces Brant," and
others, seem to render it a more milt:able time than metal,
to expos a such trichery, and vindicate our own character;
and it is the more incumbent upon us to do so, inasmuch vs
the opinion prevails that the dishonesty is contined to the
eastern cities;—so far from this being true there are scores of
itinerant doctors in this and the States farther West, wh
literally rob invalids, not only of their rummy, but of their
very lives, fur they prevent them from procariag proper
treatment in time.
Most of these traveling doctors L&s,. advantage of the pre.
valeta but eroneous belief that lung disestie can ba cured by
inhalatiane; and either profeoe to be connected with (dr.
selves, (some even having assumed our very timea,) or some
eastern phyaician of great repute, or else with some far off
(and mythical) Hospital or Univereity ; and invalids iu their
earnestness to regain health forget to examine proofs and
mulls of treatment, but are persuaded by hare aosertione to
place their health and lives in charge of incompeten; and
unprincipled mon.
We have tor Borne time been shrinking from this unpleas
ant duty, but can do as no longer, and unlit this card may
be the means of saving eomo from being deceived.
In conclusioe, it is proper to repeat, (13 We have so o len
done formerly, THAT WN HAVE NO PKESENP OONNEQ.
