taining a disorderly h NI3O. Eckert Zimmerman lives
in tho Fifth Ward, in the suile house with these tm
women, and testified that men visited tho house at
all hours. Mrs. Elizabeth Miller's testimony was

the defendants earned their livelihood by their labor,
and also that they kept a quiet house. Tho jury

Singular and Sudden Death.—About two week s
since an Englishman, named Thomas Bradley, coaled
at the houeo of Joseph Grindrod; in the Diamcnd,
and said he wanted work. Mr. 0. sant him to Mr.
Isaac Walker, of Oakland, who gave him employ
ment. Yesterday morning ho returned to Mr. G.'s ,
and said that he had quit work ; the sun was too
hot for him, and ha could not Lear it. He remained
about the house. until alccut one o'elock, - Whon he lay
down on the floor ir.. s back room, Cm inmalss of ih°
house supposing hire to be asleep. Alccnt air: o'clock
some ono went to waken him, when it way discovered
that he was dead. Dr. Murdoch was called in, and,
after examining him, gave it as his opinion that hi
death resulted from congestion of the brain, pro, e
ducsd by boat. In the absence of Coroner Aleaan
dor, an inquest was hold by Alderman Donaldson
and the jury, after examining several witnesses, and
finding no evidence of violence, returned a verdiet o:
death from congestion of the brain, caused by heat.
BreAley was a man of aboul, thirty-five years of age.
110 hal,a, wife and other relatives living at Water

Henry White.—lt seems that after all the efforts ,
which hive keen made to secure the freedom of thi: ,
unfortunate young man, ho is likely to be sold into
slavery. A despatch has been received by Xi.. Kirk
patrick from Jefferson city, which states that the
depositions which have been forwarded are not suiß
eient to insure his release. The local laws require
the evidence of ono person who can swear that he
was born free. This ovi-donce cannot be obtained
here, though he resided hero for many years. Pub
lie opinion is strongly En favor of his liberation, and
.ILfllll3ok will make a further effort to that
end. His case is ono of extreme hardship, and we
understand that a project is on foot to have the time
of gale, which is P.xed — for the 10th inst., postponed,
order to, give some of our sympathetic citizens time
to contribute towards his purchase and manumis

Sudden Deaf h .—We learn from the Johnstown
EA* that Michael O'Connell, who was employed at
the Cambria Iron Company's blast furnaces, was
overcome by heat on Saturday evening last, and ex
pired about half past ten o'clock the same night.
Mr. O'Connell was a young man of strictly mural
and temperate habits, and his sudden and melan
choly demise is sincerely regretted by his employers,
as well as by all others who him. His sufferings are
said to have been of the most intense character, and
medical aid proved abortive in all efforts to alleviate
them.
Breach. of Ordinance.—Evan Thomas, proprietor
of a grocery store on Liberty street, made informa•
tion before Mayor Weaver yesterday morning, for
nuisance against John Slayline, in allowing his
wagon, containing a wet hide, the effluvia from which,
at this heated time, warvery offensive, to stand be.
fore his store. Slayline was arrested, taken before
the Mayor, and fined ono dollar and costs. This
should be a warning to like offenders, as it is deter
mined that the sanitory regulations of the city shall
be strictly enforced this rummer.
Drowned.—A. boy eight years of ago, son of Mr.
J. Sheppard, Wellsville, was drowned by falling off
a raft near that place, oa Monthly evening. The
boy got on the raft to call his father to supper, who
was on tho other eiis of the river, when he acci
dentally slipped, fell bet - A - eon two logs, and being
unable to extricate himself, drowned in a . foot et
water.
Sates of Stocks.—The following sales of steals
were made last evening at the hlerehante Exchanger
by Messrs. Austin Loomis & Co.:

Oration.—John M. Kirkpatrick, Esq., of this city,
will deliver an address to the Sabbath schools and
citizens of Kittanning, on Monday evening, July 5,
at eight o'clock, in the First Presbyterian Church,
(Rev. Joseph Painter's.)
Henry 4.ll'Kee, the unfortunate victim of the acci
dent at Grontt'a distillery, was buried yesterday. A
large concourse of friends followed him to the grave.
Ho was an exemplary young man, and highly cc.
teemed by all who know him.
f aliciout.—A young follow named Dawson was
arrested and fined, yesterday, for throwing torpedos
into an omnibus, among some ladies. Rather dan
gerous amusement, that.
A man named Gable was committed to jail yester
day for sarety of the peace, on oath of his wife, who
made affidavit that ho had threatened to take her
life.
Lager Beer.—Those fond of thie cool beverage
should call on Mr. Bents, No. 83 Third street, near
Market, where they will bs supplied with Sehenek's
best.
To Experimentere.—lt is too often the case that
when afflicted by attacks of "cold," or diseases of
the throat and lungs, men launch forth into a disore
dared system of experiments, trying this and that
pretended curative, and getting worse as &general
thing, in return fur their trouble and expense. It
gives us pleasure to recommend to all suoh " cases"
the medicine known as Bowman's Vegetable Com.
pound, which, we aro well assured, is better calcu.
lated to effect a cure than any nostrum with which
we are acquainted. We presume It can ba had of
say respectable druggist. •
,The TaVes Turned.— Last evening, Simpson
Moore, the market constable, was endeavoring to
arrest a drunken man on Market street, who escaped
hi m . A German, passing along with his wife from
market, happened to mak'e some remark, when the
valiant officer arrested him and took him
before the Mayor, and charged him with resist.
ing him in the discharge of his duty. After an cx•
atnination into the case, the Mayor discharged the
unfortunate prisoner, and fined Simpson $5 for dis
orderly conduct. This lesson may teach this official
to be more circumspect in his arrests in future.
Rita/ I.:I . /eels of Liquor on a Child.—Yesterday
morning, a German, named Fuester, residing on the
farm of Mr. Caleb Leo, near Hulton's station en the
Allegheny Val.ey Railroad, had a battlo of whisky
in the house, which he put away. Soon afterwards ,
his son, a little fellow about six years of ago, got tho
bottle and drank a large portion of its contents. Ho
was taken with spasms and died in a short time.
The Coroner was sent for, and summoned a jury,
who returned a verdict in eccordanoo with the facts.

caurioN TO INVALIDS—BEW &ES OF IM—
POSTOR CALVIN M. PITON. JOAN W.
SYLIES, (office 101 Penn street, Pitteburgh,) notice with
much pleasure the above card of Dr. S. S. Fitch, of Nos, York,
and f.•el it to be their duty also to caution the invalid pub.
lic against impogitions which seem daily increasing. De
cent developments In New York, of the frauds practiced by
"old Dr. U. James," the "retired physician, whose sands of
life have nearly run out," and of "Dr. Uncas Brant," and
others, seem to render it a more suitable time than mural,
to expos.) such trickery, and vindicate our owu character;
and it is the more incumbent upon us to do so, insomuch as
the opinion prevails that the dishonesty is confined t) the
eastern cities;—au far from this being tree there are scores of
itinerant doctors in this and the States farther West, lAA
literally rob invalids, not only of their money, but of their
very lives, for they prevent them from procuring proper
treatment in time.
Most of those traveling doctors take advantage of the pre.
valant but etoneons belief that lung disease can be cured by
lnhslati.ns, and either profess to be connected with our-
Selves, (soma oven having assumed our very names,) or some
eastern physician of great repute, or else with some fur off
(and mythical) Hospital or University; and invalids to their
earnestness to regain health forget to examine proofs and
reizAtt of treatment, bat are persuaded by bare assertions to
place their health and lives in charge of incompetent and
unprincipled men.
We have for some time been shrinking from this unpleas
ant duty, but can do so no longer, and irust this card may
be the means of saving soma from being deceived.
In conclusion, it is proper to repeat, as we have so often
done formerly, THAT Wil HAVE NO PRESENT CONNEC
TION WITH DR. S. B. PITCH, OR WITH ANY OFFICE
IN NEW YORK.

(neuralgia,) but would bo cured. It will oho remove all
pimples from the face and skin. Prof. Wood's Hair Rest,
calve will do all this, me circular and the following:
ANN Autos, November 6,1816.
Pimp. 0. J. wood—Dear Sir have heard much said of
the wonderful effects of your Hair Restorative, bat having
been eo often cheated by quackery and quack nostrums,
hair dyes, Erc., I war disposed to place your Restorative in
the same category with the thousand and one loudly trum
peted quack remedies, until I met you in Lawrence county
some months since, when you gave me such assurance as
Induced the trial of , our Restorative in my family—first by
my good wife, whose hair had become very thin and en•
tiroly white, and before exhausting one of your large bot
tles, her hair was restored nearly to its original beautiful
brown color, and had thickened and become he:ancient and
glossy upon, and entirely over the head; she continues to
use it, not Amply because of its beautifying effects upon
the hair, but because of its healthful influence upon the
head and mind. Othere of my family and friends aro using
your Restorative, with the happiest effects herefore, my
skepticism and doubts in reference to its character and
value are entirely removed; I can and do and moat cor
dially and confidentially recommend its use by all who
would have their hair restored from wbios or gray (by rea
son of sickness or ago,) to original color and beauty, and by
al young persons woo would have their hair beaatifol and
glossy. Very truly and gratefully years,
SOLOMON MANN.
FROND WOOD: It was a long time after I eaw you at
Blissfleld before I got the bottle of Restorative for which
you gave me an order upon your agent in Detroit, end when
I got it we concluded to try it on Mrs. Mann's hair, ea the
surest test of its power. It has done all that you aesareel
me it would do; and others of my family and friends,
having witnessed Its effects, are now using and recommend•
lug its nee to others as entitled to the highest consideration
you claim for it.
Again, very respectfully and truly, yours,
SOLOMON MANN.
Csams, 111., Jane 28, 1822.
I havo used Prof. 0. J. Wood's Hair Restorative, and have
admired Its wonderful effects. My hair was becoming, as I
thought, prematurely gray, but by the U. 36 of his Restora
tive it has resumed its original color, and, I have no doubt,
permanently so. B. BIiFiSIE, ex-Senator, U. S.
