The Grand Banhedrim to lix the candidates for the Black
Republican party this fall, met on Wednesday morning, at
10 o'clock, at the Court House. The greatest interest WWI
manifested, every district being represented, and the Court
room and lobbies were crowded at an early hour by the
anxious expectante and their triencls.
8.. P. Nevin, Esq., Chairman of the Executive Committee,
called the Convention to order.
An motion of Thos A. Rowley, Samuel s.lcKelvy, Esq., of
the Fifth ward, was chosen President, and George IL Riddle,
RN., of Allegheny City, and /Bane Jones, of 'lit township,
Vice Presidents.

A committee of three were appointed, consisting of Messrs.
Lowry, ltilw,rtt. and It. P. Navin, to decide in the case of a
tie vote in Upper St. Clair. The committee reported in favor
of but a single delegate for the district accepted.
Mr. A. M. Blown offered a resolution that the President
appoint a committee of three to select seven persona to the
Republican State Convention, and to report resolutions.

vention, moved for a committee of flue on resolutions.

Mr. T. H. Nevin asked if the German interest was repre
sented in the uominationa.
The Chairmen replied that Mr. Zoller, of M'Keeeport, and
Mr. Yost Ruch, of the city, were representatives of this in-

1. Resolvei, That the despotic policy of the National Ad
ministration in forcing upon the people of tiansos a slave
constitution, in defiance of their known wishes, and in sal-

of the people, and increases the necessity for a political ie
ganization aiming at the rescue of the Government from

2 Resolved, That the corrupt appliances used to force

pecniations that hays bred brought to light and traced to
the party in power, are at once an evidence of its rotten
ness, and of the imperative neoeszdty for its total overthrow.
3 Resolved, That protection to American industry is one

Another Attempt at Suicide in the Alle
gheny Watch House.
On Tuesday afternoon, a Mall named Samuel Bowden,
residing in the Third ward, Allegheny, was arrested at the
instance of his wife, for drunkennesii and disorderly conduct.
He was locked up in the watdi house a short time, when it
am discovered that he had Eakin off his neck handkerchief,
tied it to a bar of his cell door, and hung himself up. lie

On motion, the President of this Convention was author
zed to appoint an Executive Committee of thirteen to serve
out and examined ou the charge of drunkenness. Tb
ilayor imposed a fine of $5 m dim, which be at first refuted
to pay, but finding he wou; , ' Le obliged to gu to jail if he did
not, he took a "sober ,ecdnd thought," and liquidated. The
:irieunere in the Allegheny tombs seem to have a mania for
suicide. In the last few months no lam than four have
attempted their lives, while in Pittsburgh, with four tinted
the number of inmates, we have no such instances to record.
Why is it ?

Moorhead, charged with the assault on Voelker, were before
the Mayor yesterday mornlng,on final examination. Voelk.
