Mr. Lewis Ferry, of Easthampton, has a scs

and prooeeded to the seat of war. His friends

Colin Campbell is looked for to-morrow. We
have thus far fought our way through the noun

war will last, it is hard to tell—hut the blacks
will get a warning from us soon. Money is a.-
plenty here as the dirt under our feet, and I liave
received my share in gold and silver. I never
count it, and set very little value upon it, for I
don't know when 1 shall be shot. The shots fly
very hot on both sides every day, but the loss on
our part is small. I am writing this on the
ground, and am unable to give you the particu

"We landed at Calcutta on the 25th of No

chance in ten for my returning home."
We were not surprised to hear that young Fer
ry was in India fighting in the British service.—
The übiquity of the Yankee is proverbial. They
go everywhere, and engage in every speoies of
business. Among the passes of the Rooky Monn
tains, in the gold regions of California, alsug
the shores of the Pacific, from the Russian Pos
sessions on the north to the extreme southern
point of Patagonia, along the Atlantic coasts, in
all the islands of the sea, in all parts of the West
ern hemisphere, engaged in the arts of peace or
iu the prosecution of war—striving for gold or
travelling for pleasure—digging up the sunken
ships of Russia before Sebastopol, building rril
ways, constructing ships—may ho seen the ever
restless, roving sons of New England. No zone,
torrid or frozen, escapes them ; no rnountain so
rugged or difficult of ascent as to impede their
progress ; no sea so wide or so stormy as to inter
ceyt their constant march.
We were forcibly reminded of this übiquity of
oar race, when reading some years since an 143-
count by an Englishman of his travels in Afr.da.
Ho had penetrated far into the interior, and was
proudly treading the arid sand of the desert,
where, as he supposed, no foot of civilized wen
had ever made its track. He was just on the
point of congratulating himself on his good for
tune in reaching at last a place where he w 0714
no longer encounter the Yankee, when, lookin g
up, he beheld to his amazement a crowd of Arabs
crouched upon a side hill, with a tall Yankee from
New Hampshire, in their midst administering the
temperance pledge
