FrautlA in Coal
Since the introduction of the new system of weighing
coal and requiring a certificate to accompany each lead,
treads iu quantity have been less frequent, because more
difficult of accomplishment. Still there aro some who will
adopt flay means, however mean, to put a few cents in their
pock As. A case of fraud in coal cccu:red on Saturday.
Emil Schaubuth, a German, residing at No. 36 Market
ate( t, over Rhea's shoe store, purchased a load of coal from
a Mr. Staub, who contracted with a man named Addison
Foster to furnish the teal. When the load' was sent up,
S:hlcbuth demanded to Gee the ticket, which, on examina
tion, he found had been altered from seventy to seventy-nine
bushels. The carter was ordered not to throw fi any more
c:n', two officers were called, and Feeler and his driver,
Je ha Eccles, were arrested and taken he Maycr's office.
On ramming into the matter it was fourd that the driver
wai not a party to the fraud, and he was discharged; while
For:yr was fined five dollars and rests under a city ordi
nance. The penalty, we think, is too light for the offence.
Foster did not deny the cha go, but said it was his first of.
feme, tut gave as a reason for hie dishonesty thet he did not
t now he was telling coal to Schanbuth, but thought it was
for Staub, who had once made him a per of boots which, to
me his own words, were "scandalous."
INTELESTINC: EXIIIIIITION.—An exhibition of a very inter
esting character to all interested in the cause of education
and humanity, will take place nt Mason'c flail this evening.
The exhibition consists of experiments on five children of
feeble mind, who have for some time b en under the instruc
tion of Di Joseph Parrish, Superintendent of the Pennsyl
vania Training School for Idiotic Children. The Pcctor has
been traveling with his pupils for some time, und wherever
he has stopped, the pr ficiency manifested by them has been
the wonder of all. The exhibition, will be, to all intents
and purposes, free—as the only admittance charged will be
a dime, to pay for the hall. We hope to seo a full attend
ance at Maw& Hall this evening, as the cause is one worthy
of support, and we should be glad to sea cur citizens shrw
their appreciation of ill such benevolent enterprises by due
encouragement.
kI,TRICT Cour.2.—On last Friday, a case of cons"derablo
importance to steamboat owners was triad in the District
Court. It was a cas. In which Lmimer sued the
owners cf the steamer Savannah for the payment of a note
for three hundred dollars, signed in Oa , ir name by Capt.
Dennisten. The case had been tried once before, bat a uew
trial was granted. It was set forth that the custom in steam
boat business was for the Captain to sign notes for the i wn•
mere, and to pay them from the profits of the beat. Soy.
eral similar notes had been discounted by Mr. Lorimer for
the same boat, all of which bad been paid by the owners.
The Court held that the Captain had no power to make a
note which would b bin 1:7-.; on the boat owLer3,
therefore, non suit was entered.
EUNAITAY.-Fifth street was the tc3ne of a very exci'lag
rnnaway oa last Saturday a`ternoon. A horse, attached to
a light baggage wagon, Egart.d on Grant err.-et, and came
running at full speed In the direction of our office. At the
corner of Smithfield and Fifth streets to came in collision
with a cart in which a horse was hitched, barking the shine
of the latter severely; striking the cart, a flimsy wheel of
the baggage wagon was broken to pieces, and the horse pro
ceeded in his wild career. 31f way between Woad and
Market two little girls were standing, and their escape from
being trampled by the animal was miraculous, while the
gaping crowd locked at the horse, without a single helping
hand being stretched forth. At the corner of Market and
Fifth wrests the horse was caught. Th 3 wagon was com
pletely demolished.
Ma. NEAILE.—Most of our Pittsburgh theatro•goera have
seen and beard Mr. Neafle, and know what his merits as an
actor are. It is therefore superfluous to say more than that
ho has been engaged at Foster's National Theatre for six
nigsts, during which:time he will appear in his most cele
brated characters. This evening he appears iu the character
of Damon, a Dart in which he is admirable. If Mr. Ncafis
does not play a successful engagement here, we shall begin
to believe that our citizens are either er..Aving tired of the
drama, or at least the "legitimate.' We shall see, how
ever.
EPLENDIL Now FIIIINIITILE LT A DIII , ISTFtATC3S' ELLE.—The

Werra CURE ESTABLIBEIII-N7.-170 have in our city many
advocates of the water cure system, aed to such we would
commend tho Pittsburgh Water Cure Establishment at
flay sville. Tho location is vary desirable, only ten mile,

eSt of visitors in the summer season, a flno g3mnasiam
and bowling alloy has recently been erected on the przsaises.
To those who require a short season of relaxation, or whose
physical system needs strengthening, no better opportunity
can bo offered. See advertisement in another part of our

mail train now leaves every morning, except Sunday, at 6:30

new train hai also been put on, which leaves the station at
1:25 P. 01., stops only at the principal stations, and arrives in
Philadelphia next morning at 6 o'clock. This train reaches
Pittsburgh at 2:25 A. M , and is called the " Fast Line."
TEE Moarzs BEorEEES.—On Saturday we saw a despatch
from Morris stating that the company had purchased tickets,
and would:start for Pittsburgh- that evening. We under.
stand that they arrived here yesterday, and will bo ready
for this evening. Tho programme for to-night comprises
earns of the finest music. Billy Morris' "Mocking Bird
Song" is alone worth the price of admission. We shall be
surprised if the Theatre is not filled this evening.
WE direct attention to the advertisements of Messrs.
O'Connor, Pro. it Co, No. 16 Wood street. They are well
known in this community as a reliab o banking firm. They

PHE CHEMICAL OLIVE ERASIVE
SOAP, manufactured by B. C. & J. 11. Sawyer, re.
nceives the preference over all other kinds ever offered for
family nee.
Its advantages over other Soaps are:—lst It is deeper
to nee, one pound being equal to three of common rosin
San. 2d. Half the time need only bo recopied in washing
when this Soap is used in place of other Soap. ltd. Labor
in washing can be nearly dispensed with, as the clothes'
will requite little if any rubbing, thus avoiding their wear
on the wash-board 4th. Boiling he clothes is unnecessary
wh.rn tuts Soap is used, and hard or salt water answers
equally as well as tuft. sth. Printers, Machinists, Painters
and others, find it far suprrior to other Soaps. It speedily re.
moves grease, tar, paint, printers' ink and dirt from the
bands, leaving the skin soft, and free from chapping.
To avoid the labor or rubbing the clothes, and the use of
the wash-board, the following directions should bo followed:
Far the washing of eight or ten of a family, take one
pound cf Soap, cut it into shavings, and dissolve in ono
gallon of hot water; put the clothes into a tub containing
about ten gallons of warm water; pour in the dissolved
Soap, and stir thoroughly. Lot them soak twenty to thirty
minutes, wring out, and rinse in when] water once, cold
water twice. A very dirty wrist-band, or seam, or grease
sp to, may require a slight rubbing, but otherwise the
clothes will come out clean and white, without rubbing or
boiling. Cold water may bo used in place of hot, requiring
about double time in soaking.
