and made his escape, last week, Bansom says.

. —The African Importation Scheme introduced
into the Louisiana Legislature has been indefi
nitely postponed. It excited considerable dis
cussion in the Senate, and was argued as a meas
ure of policy not inconsistent with State or Fed
eral law, and very beneficial to the native Afri
can, who would be morally and intellectually im
proi,ed by coming in contact with civilization.—
The argument was strongly put, but a majority
of the members of the Senate, could not see the
moral and civilizing benefits - of the sohemo, and
thought indentured apprentices would be a dan
gerous element.to introduce among their slave
population. The' scheme was, therefore, knock
ed in the head by a vote to postpone it indefi
nitely.
—The Committee of the Boston Total Absti
nence Society, appointed to - examine the jury
list, have reported as the result of their labors,
eighty , three objectionable names, classified as
follows:—Liquor dealers 44; grocers who are
supposed to be liquor sellers, 30; distillers, 3 ;
objectionable 6. So says the Boston Herald ;
but,we can scarcely believe that this kind of in
terferanoe with the jury box is permitted in old
Masan hnsetts.
—The Savannah News states that a gentleman
front Florida reports twit Billy Bowlegs had
been into camp at Fort Meade, and agreed to
leave with me entice tribe, "look, stook and
barrel," for.the West, on the terms proposed by

was at Singowar, where a party of four men,
after, being luck y for some time, concluded to
put down one mote hole before making tracks

brought it down to Melbourne, last week, and

scarcely believe that such, - ,a piece of gold can

cy of the marvellous lamp of that friend of my

pure gold, believe, that has ever been found in
