Wo learn froth the Monongahela " Republican'
that on the sixth of March the mill of Coursin
Wilson, at Hayworth, was blown up by the bursting
of the boilers. One person, name not given, was in.
etautly killed, and several fatally wounded.
Last week, five children—three boys and two
girls—returning from school in Manchester town-
York county, ventured on the ice on the Co
ra, but it not being of sufficient thickness to bear
their weight, four of their number broke through,
1,n,1 before assistance could be rendered three of
them were drowned. The alarm was given by the
fifth child, a little girl, and a Mr. ilubley, who was
near by, succeeded in rescuing the other girl, at the
risk of his life.
On last Sunday night, Funk's grist mill, situated
in Armstrong co.:tity, near the Indiana county line,
took fire and was burned to the ground. This mill
was generally known as " Woodward's Mill." The
eFigitt of the fire is not known. There was a partial
insurance on the property.
John Matthews was tried lasi week ai Brownsville
and found guilty of 8 enling a sum of money and
sevtral watchi- , from Mr. J. Iteeec, of that place.
He denied the taking of the go , ds. On last Sunday
morning forty seven dollars in money and three
watches wore found concealed in the new brewery of
'recce & Tonhy, in that place. Matthews has been
scut to the penitentiary.
On Sand4y last, a young man named Wible was
re•urning frrm church in Greensburg with three
ladies in a carriage, when the horses became unman
agoahle and ran down a hill, comibg in collision
with a wagon, standing in front of a blacksmith
shop. The carriage was brAten to pieces, but sin
gularly enough, those in the carriage escaped with
out injury. z
Last week, a littlo daughter of Jaroea Clark, of
C;,rnbria county, five years old, was engaged in cook
ing, when her clothes coming in °intact with the
stove, took fire, and she was so severely burned as to
cause her death on Saturday last. No one was near
to assist her.
We learn from the "Allegheny Mountain Echo "
that a child of Mr. James Morgan, of JAnstown,
was so severely scalded, a few days since, by a pot
of hot coffee falling on it from the stove, that it died
in a day or two. The child was only a year old.
Fatal Accident in Allegheny.
On Thursday night, as a man named Booth was
walking along the track of the Pittsburgh, Fort
Wsyne and Chicago Railroad, near the Allegheny
pf.ssenger station, he observed a train passing up the
track, and in endeavoring to get out of the way
stopped on to the other track, when another train
backing down struck him and knocked him on the
track. The wheels of the hindmost car struck him
1311 the left foot and passed transversely np to his right
hip, crushing and mangling his limbs terribly. He
scos taken to his residence and a physician called in,
but a ftor lingering for an hour he died in great agony.
Yesterday morning an inquest was held on the body,
and a verdict rendered in accordance with the facts.
The scone of the accident was terrible, the track
tieing covered with bl od, pieces of bone, and even
lumps of flesh. He was is man thirty-five or forty
years of ago, was employed in a hardware store in
this city, and had just returned from Cleveland,
where he has a wife and two children living.
Charge.. of Conspiracy.—lnformation was made
before Mayor Weaver yesterday, against James G.
Saint and Moses Hawthorne, charging them with
conspiracy and fraud. The facts as stated in the in
formation are as follows: The defendants, Saint Jr,
Hawthorne, were indebted to James Blair $191,18,
for the boilers of the steamer Virginia Belle, for
merly owned by them; the defendants had an in.
wrest of six tenths in the steamer Minnetonka, then
being built, and they, with a design or defrauding
Blair, caused their interest in the Minnetonka to be
transferred to Henry S. Barker and Johnston Gorm
ley, and caused their interest to be enrolled and
registered in the Custom office as the property of
Barker and Gormley, in order to put the boat out of
the reach of Blair. He could not collect his debt,
and accordingly made information against them for
fraud, under the act of 1842, abolishing imprison
ment for debt. No arrests have been made, bat it is
probable the defendants will be bound over foe trial.
We know nothing of the merits of the case, but pre
sume, of course, there is another side to it.

Fatal Accident.
A man named John Birch was killed at the " En
terprisu Works," on Wood street, yesterday afternoon.
lie was engaged in grinding, and for some days he
had been anxious to have the stone on which he
worked revolve more rapidly. To this his employers,
Messrs. Bown d Tetley, objected, stating that the
stone would not bear it. Yesterday morning, how
ever, Birch attached a larger pulley to the machinery,
thus giving it a double velocity. At two o'clock,
while he was at work, the steno broke into three
pieces, which wore thrown about with great force.
One of these pieces struck Birch on the forehead,
fracturing and crushing his skull terribly, and split
ting his nose in two. He lingered for about an hour,
and died about three o'clock. He was an English.
man, aged about forty-five, and has a wife and six
children living in England.
The catalogue of English and American Books to
he sold this evening on the second door of Davis'
new Auction Building, Fifth street, is a very choice
collection of the most complete and elegant editions
issued by the London and American presses of popu
lar and standard authors. In subjects of the vol
umes, it embraces a quite extensive range, from
hico readers of every taste can choose. Any library
might reeeive valuable additions from its volumes,
all of which are of interest and established repute.
MCI. The books are now open for examination. *
_Veto Arrangement.—We call the attention of our
readers to the " Notice to Shippers," in another col
umn. It will be seen by it that hereafter freight for
way stations on the Pennsylvania Central and Pitts
burgh and Connelloville Railroads, will be received
,it, the Baldwin Depot," on Liberty street, opposite
the Duquesne depot. Freight from way stations will
be delivered at Duquesne depot, with the exception
of lumber, limo, bark and stone, which will be de

Burglary.—On Friday morning the bakery of Mr.
Martin, on the corner of Robinson and Federal
streets, Allegheny, was entered by thieves, and the
Looney drawer, containing some twenty dollars in
Looney, carrion off. The rascals effected an entrance
;hrou;:h a window, after breaking out the glass. The
others were up until three o'clock in the morning,
and the theft was supposed to have been committed
.tiortly after they left. The drawer was found in an
adjoining hoard pile next morning, minus the money ;
several articles which were , n it remaining untouched.
Funeral I,f Copt. P. N. Guthrie.—Tho remains of
Captain Uuthrio were interred in the Allegheny
Cemetery yesterday morning, having arrived here
from Cincinnati on Thursday night. The Duquesne
iire . is and Scott Legion turned out, and followed his
remains to the grave, the former in their winter uni
form, with a band preceding them, and the latter in
,•itizons' dr,ess, with badges of crape. They pre
sented a handsome, but solemn appearance.
Professor IVamelink'e Concert.—Our musical ama
teurs will ho gratified to see the announcement for
Professor Warnelink's concert on next Tuesday eve
ning. The programme, which we publish this morn
lug, is a very good one. The proceeds of the con-
cert are for two very worthy charities, and we hope
it will he liberally patronized. It is not necessary,
however, to bespeak a tull house for the Professor
end his pupils; their merits are well known to our
•itizoos.
Another Information in the Abduction Case.—Mrs.
Mary Ann Farris yettorday made an information
.igains.t George G. Ettiglan, of Tuscumbia, Alabama,
charging him with being a party to the conspiracy
by which her husband was returned to slavery. A
.arrant has been issued for his arrest, and if he pur
i.ues his avowed intention of coming here to help
Sbqw through, he will probably be captured and have
a finger in the pie also.
, Ylidc.—On Monday last a very heavy land
slide occurred on the Pittsburgh and Connellsville
Railroad. at the quarry just below West Newton. It
did not, however, interfere materially with the trains.
she mail train going east on Monday night was de
tained- for several hours, but on Tuesday morning
the road was clear and the trains were enabled to
pass.
Horses Stolen —On the night of the 3d of March,
a pair of match sorrel horses were stolen from one
Philander Brown, of Ashtabula, Ohio. Our Post-
wasterreceiveJ a letter yesterday, stating that it was
thought the horses were being brought here, and
offering a reward of $l5O for the detection of the
thief and recovery of the horses, or $5O for any ono
of the three.

Theatre,—Miss Lucille had a fine benefit at the
Theatre last evening. The house was filled to reple
tion, and the audience was convulsed with laughter
during the whole performance. The conundrums
offered for the prize cup were most of them very
stupid ; some few, however, wore passable. This
evening Miss Helen takes a benefit, when the play
of the " Three Fast Men " will be produced for the
laSt time in this city.
Small-Pox.—Yesterday there were no new cases of
this disease in the jail. Tho turnkey, noticed yester
day, still has symptoms of it; and George Shaw,
confined for attempting to abduct Farris, is complain.
ing of headache and pains in the back. If these
eases are small pox, they will develop themselves in
a few days.
Finally Committed.—Perry Hartman alias Jacob
Wilkinson has been finally committed for assault and
battery with intent to kill, on the person of Louisa
Williams, by Alderman Donaldson. After this
charge is disposed of, ho will be sent to Yurk county,
where a more serious charge is pending against
him.
Convicts.—Sheriff Boyd, of Uniontown, arrive'
here on last Tuesday, having in charge three pris
oners, Matthews, Trimble and Marshall alias
They were convicted and sentenced to the Peniten

was exceedingly dull yesterday. At the morning
levee there were but seven common cases. Three of
these were committed, two paid their fines, and two
were discharged unconditionally.
Fayette County Bank.—The books of this bank
will be opened on Monday, the 15th bast. Those who
desire to take stock in this institution should remem
ber this.
Officer Wray, of the Mayor's police, lost his badge

and others, find it far sup, rior to other Soaps. It speedily re
moves grease, tar, paint, printers' ink and dirt from the
hands, leaving the skin soft, and free from chapping.
To avoid the labor of rubbing the clothes, and the use of
Lho wash-board, the following directions should be followed :
For the washing of eight or ten of a family, take one
pound of Soap, cut it into shavings, and dissolvy, in ono
gallon of hot water; put the clothes into a tub containing
about ten gallons of warm water; pour in the dissolved
Soap, and stir thoroughly. Let them soak twenty to thirty
minutes, wring out, and rinse in warm water once, cold
water twice. A very dirty wrist-band, or seam or grease
sfr is, may require a slight rubbing, but otherwise the
cliothes will come out clean and white, without rubbing or
'boiling. Cold water may be used in place of hot, requiring
about double time in soaking.

DR. SANFORD'S INVIGiORATOR,
Is REQUIRED TO . CURE ANY ONE
troubled with Liver Complaints, unless the most des.
perms. of coats, when the second bottle will, with scarce a
single failure, restore the patient to health and vigor. Ws
whit' to call the attention of all to these facts, that the In-
vigorator is compounded by a physician who has ailed It In
his practice for the past twenty years with a Imams airiest
credulous, and that It Is entirely vegetable, being composed
wholly of gams.
Mame Idea of the strength of these gums may be formed
whoa it is known ono bottle of the Invigorator contains as
much strength as one hundred dcoes of Calomel without any
of its delete/ions effects.
We know there is nothing now before the America's pub•
lic, prepared with ouch skill - by a scientific man, particniatly
for diseases of the Liver, as Dr. Sanford', Invigorator, or
Liver Remedy. It has attaleed a reputation second to ne

merit. To convince alt by trial that it is all its proprietors
claim it to be, If any of our readers are suffering from each
diseases as are described in Dr. Sanford's advertisement, we
know of know remedy that will so surely cure them sa the
Invigorator.
The Invigorator cures Sick headache. Take one or,two
teaspoonfuls at each attack and it will soon disappear. For
an overloaded stomach, or when food rises or soars, take the
invigorator after eating, and it will not prove disagreeable
or oppressive. For ileartbut n, l'alpitation, or Difficult
Breathing, take a tea P(1011f1; I once or twice daily. For Loas
of Appetite, Languor or listlessness, the medicine is invaln.
able. It will restore the appetite and make the food digest
well. Nightmare, take a teasixxmfal on retiring, and the
demons of dream-land will all be fairies. After eating a
hearty dinner, take a dose of Invigorator and it will relieve
alLoppression or fullness. Invigorator is Liver Remo
dy of unequaled virtue, acting directly on that organ, cut.
