Quite an intricate case was tried before Hie Honor
Mayor Weaver yesterday morning. Oar readers will
remember that on the Path of January last a charge
was made against one Joseph Renould, for taking
his effects privately from the house of a Mrs. Stacey,
in Allegheny, whore he boarded, leaving an unpaid
balance of $8,25, which amount, it was alleged, he
intended defrauding her out of. The next day an
other information was made against him by Freder
ick Templer for fornication; also an information
against his w:fe fur adultery with Renould. Renould
got wind of the snit for fraud and left. When Mrs.
Templer's case came up, she proved by several wit
nesses that Renould was at Mrs. Stacey's on the
night charged in the information. The case was
therefore discharged at the cost of the husband.
'lemplor had darted from hie wife, but some ten days
afterwards returned home, when ho ascertained that
Renould had left some clothing worth about $4O,
which John Padgett. her brother, had pawned for
$6,75. Templer obtained possession of the pawn
tickets, and on Monday last gave them to Mrs. Sta
cey to secure her claim on Renould. She took them
to tl•o office, paid $l2, and redeemed them. Mean.
while Renould had returned to the city, and was ar
rested and brought before the Mayor on a warrant
issued under the information for fraud. Mrs. Stacey
was sent for, and the above facts were ascertained.
As soon es Renould heard of the disposition which
had been made of his clothes, ho made an informa
tion against Padgett for larceny in taking away and
pawning his clothes. Templer, who was at war with
all the parties a short time since, was present during
the examination, and said he did not care a fig who
won. Mrs. Templer was also very bitter against het
brother, Padgett, who bad been her principal witness
in proving an rail, for Renonld on the first charge.
The matter was finally compromised by Rendhld
paying Mrs. Stacey her claim, she giving up the
clothes.
A man named Thomas Smith, living at Lockport,
Westmoreland county, was run over by the cars near
Nineveh station, Pennsylvania Railroad, on Wednes
day night last, and killed. Both of his legs were
broken, and his head and body badly mutilated. It
is supposed it was the Accommodation train which
killed him, as he left the station a short time before
it passed. He was not found until midnight, and
after several trains had passed.

James Borryhill, of Cross Creek township, Wash
ington county, who was found to be insane by a
jury, during the late courts, was taken to the Western
Pennsylvania Hospital on Friday last, by Sheriff
Bruce.
Several evenings since, a little girl, di..nehter of
Mr. Waugaman, of New Salem, Westmoreland coun
ty, in attempting to jump on a sled passing down
street in that borough, fell, breaking her arm. This
is a warning to persons in the habit of clinging to
sleighs and sleds while in motion in the streets.
David Rankin, of Penn township, Westmoreland
against whom a charge of passing ; counter
feit money was made, has given himself up, and en
tered bail for his appearance at Court to answer the
charge.
Gov. Packer has pardoned Thomas Berry, formerly
of Greensburg, who, with a number of others, was
convicted at darlisle, in November, 1856, of riot, and
sentenced to two years and nine months' imprison
ment in the Eastern Penitentiary.
Our friends in Hollidaysburg have been following
our example in adopting the duel code far the settle
ment of their difficulties. On Friday last a "meet
ing " took place between two young men, one of
whom had accused the other of stealing mackerel.
They met in a warehouse, fired, and at the first shot
one party fell. The other fled, and has not since
been heard of. Tho party who fall was not seriously
wounded.
A man named James Hughes was found in the
stabll of John D. !loony, in Cumru towpship, Berke
county, on last Saturday evening, fraen to death.
The decoosed had been for some time past, an inmate
of the Berks county Alms House. He had wandered
away on the previous Thursday. The jury returned
a verdict that he came to his death by freezing.
A little son of Mr. John Buts, of Reading, came
near losing his life on Saturday morning last, in the
following manner: A wagon was standing in front
of the housp, and while the driver was engaged in
the house, the boy climbed up on to the seat, and the
horses becoming frightened, ran off and threw him
down. The wheels of the wagon passed over the
boy, mangling and bruising his body terribly. '
Rieciion.—On Tuesday the citizens of Lawrence•
ville held an election for borough officers, which re
sulted in the selection of the following persons.

The*" Three Fast Men" at the Theatre.—A brilliant
assemblage again graced the Theatre last evening,
every seat in the house being occupied—a most de.
serving compliment to the accomplished sister stars,
Misses Lucille and Helen, and furnishes the most
uninistasable evidence of the high appreciation in
which they are held by the public. They introduced
a number of excellent songs, which were charmingly
sung, and elicited the most rapturous applause. The
Minstrel scene was full of amusement, and it was
greatly enhanced by the impromptu jokes of Jerry,
(Mr. Hamilton,) who is certainly very happy in the
part, and in every scene won much applause. The
curtain dropped amidst greaCenthnsiasm. The piece
will be played again this evening.

Alleghenian Killed.—We learn by the Butler
" Herald," that Nicholas Sheets, of Allegheny City,
a teamster in the employ of Mr. 8011, of Butler
county, was killed by the kick of a horse, at a tavern
is the town of Butler, on Tuesday evening last, un
der the following circumstances : He and another
person entered the stable to attend to the horses,
when one of them kicked bins in the face and on the
left temple, one of the "corks," or toe of the shoe,
I roaking through the skull, and penetrating the
brain. He was entirely unconscious from the time
of receiving the injury until his death, which occur
red the following day at two o'clock. He leaves a
wife and eight children, who reside in Allegheny
City.
Denny Sentenced.—Some days since Mr. Wingard,
the counsel for Daniel Denny, one of the parties
convicted of the murder of the old man Weissman,
flied his renions for a new trial. A verdict of man
slaughter had been rendered in the case. Yesterday
tuorni , g, about eleven o'clock, Judge M'Clure filed
a decision on the application, overruling it. He
proceeded to sentence him, when Mr. Wingard asked
the Court to deal mercifully with the prisoner. Judge
\Velure then sentenced him to six years imprison.
meat in the Penitentiary. This, we believe, is the
heaviest punishment that can be inflicted for the
crime of manslaughter. The prisoner was then re
manded to jail.
Settled.—We alluded yesterday to a case in whiFh
Borman named Unger was arrested by a constable
under peculiar circumstances, and stated that Unger
had sued Thompson and was about to inetitute'a suit
against the constable for false imprisonment. The
matter was before the Mayor yesterday, but was
compromised amongst the parties. The oonstable
Cates that ho did not understand the merits of the
ease when he made the arrest. Thompson says the
thing was all for a joke; that he hid the rule, and
Unger, on finding it, became very indignant and
'truck him two or three times.
Fire near .01"Keeeport.—At an early hour on
Wednesday morning, the house of Jas. Cunningham,
some two miles from M'Keesport, was destroyed by
fire. A party had been assembled at the house on
Tuesday evening, they went home at a late hour, and
the family retired, but were awakened soon after
wards by a loud explosion, shaking the whole house.
The family escaped without injury, but the house was
a total loss. It was a stone house, situated in Mifflin
township. The explosion emanated from a portion
of a keg of gunpowder which was in the house. 'I he
origin of the fire was net precisely ascertained.
At her Old Tricks.—Wo notice by the Cincinnati
Commercial that Jenny Sinclair, who during aresideLee
of four months in this city was confined in jail al
most the entire time, was, on Monday last, committed
to the dungeon by Judge Pruden, of that city, fur
seventy days fur vagrancy, drunkenness and disor
derly conduct. Tho first sentence was for thirty
days, but she used such obscene and abusive language
in the court room that the Judge was obliged to add
twenty days at two different times.
Crossing Penn Sireet.—Workmen were busily en
gaged in laying the track of the Pittsburgh, Fort
Wayne and Chicago Railroad across Penn street yes.
torday. The work will probably be finished and
trains run across to-day. In accordance with the
decision of the District Court, an injunction was
served on the Mayor, police and citizens of Pitts.
burgh, restraining them from interfering with the
company in crossing or in running their trains after
the track is completed.
Lecture.—lion. Joseph It. Chandler, of Philadel.
phis,
will deliver a lecture in the basement of the
Cathedral on next Wednesday evening, being St.
Patrick's Day. The gentleman lectures under the
direction of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and
the proceeds are for the benefit of the orphans. The
subject will be announced in due time.
Goo. Foeter.—Joseph C. Foster took a benefit at
the National Theatre in Cincinnati, on Monday eve.
ning. Ile played his great character of Napoleon
Bonapare, in whie.h he has been so successful, and
was greeted with a large and enthwiastie audience.
Another one of those delightful concerts, given in
the first Associate Reformed C c nroh, Sixth street, for
the benefit of its Sabbath School, will be given this
evening. That on Tuesday night gave tinbonnded
satiefaation to • rtry large audience.

SOAP, manufactured by B. 0. St . , J. sawyer ; re,
receives the preference over all other kinds ever offered for
family use.
Its advantages over other Soaps are:-Ist. It is cheaper
to use, one pound being equal to three of common rosin
Soap. 2,1. Half the time need only be occupied in washing
when this Soap is used in place of other Soap. ad. Ldbmr
in washing can be nearly timpensed with, as the clothes
will require little if any rubbing, thus avoiding their wear
on the wash-board. 4th. Boiling the clothes is unnecessary
when this Soap is used, and hard or salt water answers
equally as well as soft. sth. Printers, Machinists, Painters
and others, tiud it fur superior to other Soups. It speedily re
moves grease, tar, paint, printers' ink and dirt from :the
hands, leaving the skin suit, and free from chapping. t
To avoid the labor of rubbing the clothes,-and the ode of
the wash-boArd, the following directions should he follovied :
For the washing of eight or. ten of a family, take one
pound of Soap, cut it into shavings, and dissolve in one
gallon of hot water; put the clothes into a tub containing
about ten gallons of warm water; pour in the dissolved
Soap, and stir thoroughly. Let theta soak twenty to thirty
minutes, wring out, and rinse in warm water once, cold
water twice. A very dirty wrist-band, or seam, or grease
sprts, may require a slight rubbing, but otherwise the
clothes will cows out dean and white, withont rubbing or
boiling. Cold water may be used in place of hot, requiring
about double time in soaking.

DR. SANFORD'S INVIGORATOR,
Is REQUIRED TO CURE ANY ONE
troubled with Liver Complaints, unless the swat dee

single failure, restore the patient to health and VlitOr. We
wish to call the attention of all to these fits, that the In.
vigorator is compounded by a phyrician who MS Mal ft in
his practice for the past twenty years with o imeassa
credulous, and that it is entirely vegetable. being
wholly of gums.
Some idea of tho strength of these gums may be formed
when it is known one bottle of the Invigorate? OentatrAtia,
much strength as one hundred dogma of Calomel without any
of its deleterious effects.
We know there is nothing now before the America% pub •

for di , tp.‘nes of the Liver, es Dr. Sanford's Invigorator, or

The Invigorator curve hick Headache. Take one or two
teaspoonfuls at-each attack and it will soon disappear. Fur
an overloaded stomach, or when food rises or sours, take the
Invigorator after eating, and it will not prove disagreeable
or oppressive. For Heartburn, Palpitation, or Difficult
Breathing; take a tea-spoonful once or twice daily. For Loss

Invigorator.
There has lately been brought to our notice a medicine
that seems to possess wondertul, curative and healing pro
perties in diseases of the Liver, Stomach and Digestive Or
gans. It came to us with so many testimonials in its favor
that wo have noted its effects in some of the worst cases of
continual dibility, caused by deranged liver, and in every
instance the effect was to relieve or give a permanent cure,
Dr. Sanford's Invigorator, or Liver Remedy is what we re
fer to. We always have been credulous about cares by pat
ent medicines, but we are convinced that this medidne, for
family use, is not overrated by the host of recommend-10w,
it has. Our advice is, for all troubled with Indigustion,
bility or Bowel Complaint, to get a bottle and try it; our
word for it, relief will be experienced.
BLUSLVOS TO VIZ INI/ALIDY who use Dr. Parlforchl Invigor•
ator, for it will relieve them of their pains as soon as it is
taken into their stomach. Pain and misery cannot exist
where the Invigorator is used, for it will as surely drive them
away, as daylight will banish darkness, of this there can b
uo doubt to th se who try it, for it carries conviction with
every dose taken. Another evidence is the thousands of
certiticates'froul those who use it or have been cured by it,
Try one bottle, it it does not benefit, then we are mistaken.
