Serious A ffrety On Saturday night about twelve o'clock, a couple o f young men got into a difficulty at the Neptune En gin,' house on Seventh street, in which one of them, named Daniel Gallaher, about nineteen years old, re ding in South Pittsburgh, was dangerously wound ed. It appears that Gallaher and another man nam• ~,1 E.twari Mo irhead, were both intoxicated, and c,at M,,orliead took Gallaher by the collar and pull ,,{ him around the hall; Gallaher believing him to be in jest "tiered no resitance until Moorhead dealt him qatte a fever° blow, when he siezed him by the col lar and shook him ; ;Moorhead immediately drew a knits rind struck him in the hreart. Gallaher was able to walk to his residence in South Pittsburgh, when Dr. Walters was immediately sent for. On ex amination it was found that the point of the knife had actually penetrated the heart; had the cut been ..no fourth ~f an inch dept it must have proven fa tat ; indeed his escape was altntw. ntiraculoue. The chil dren and (etudes were dropped out of the window with only their night dresses on, and were followed by Mr. Finley himself. They did not even save their clothing. Tne building was a now one, of hriok, re cently- built, worth, with its contents, about three thousand d r ,llars, on which there was no insurance. The loss wiII fall heavily On Mr. Finley, who is an industrious, nard_working nlan, and is thus deprived in an hour all his e,rthly possessions. Biatiii.-0,1 Sunday night, about nine o'clock, a fracas took• place at the house of the notorious Mrs. Leslie, on Pennsylvania avenue, in which a girl named Mary Sinclair was badly beaten. She had some difficulty with a wan visiting the house, where upon he seized a chair and struck her with it, felling her to the II or; ho then jumped with his feet upon her head, leaving the imprint of his heels on her face. He was ,elzied and taken away or ho would probaoly have Li'led the girl. As it is, she is terribly bruised and disfigured abut the heed. The valiant man was arrested and taker.' b-fore Alderman Rogers, who held hint to bail in the sum of $3OO to answer a charge of assault and battery with intent to kill. An information was subsequently made against the in mates of the house, and they were committed to jail for keeping a bawdy house. Some persons were ar• ed who sore in the house at the time, who were released on the payment of a fine. Th,otrie k fast age, tedeetl, if we may judge from the brilliant assemblage at the Tbeatrolmt cv,. ring. The sister stars were Int.st enthu,iaßticatly re eed ved. Mies Lucille looked charming and made her changes with great rapidity and perfection. ,Sh., rendered the fop scene and that of the sailor bt y very perfectly, infusing into each the spirit and duct that was truly irresistible. In the musical scene Alis:ms Lucille and Helen introduced several s o ngs , and in the Ethiopian breakdowns imitated the move ments of some of our celebrated negro minstrels with a humor truly irresistible. We must not forget to notice the funnitnonts of Jerry Blossom, as pers too ted by Mr. Hamilton, which kept the audience in n roar of laughter from beginning to the end. The piece is anncurced again for this evening, and we would advise all who have not yet seen it to avail t etnsel . es of the opportunity, as we heir that the star sisters only remain this week. .11,tyur'o Vice.—A striking morality seemed to pervade our city on Sunday; whether it was from the fact that the drinking houses are kept closed on that day or from some other muse we cannot say, but on Monday morning only one solitary individual was found in the Watch house, slid he was committed to On Sunday Morning there were about a dozen common cases before his Honor; about half of them were sent up to Jailor Phi!ips to take charge of them for a short time. Hours—ln another column will he found the advertisment of A. L. Webbat; Bro., of Bal timore. We can caeerfully recommend this house to thoso having business fe Baltimore. In addition to their commisson business they are agents for the sale of Dupont's Powder and Safety Fuse. They receive consignments of every kind of Western Produce, and make advances cr. them. Look at the advertisement and bear it in mind, when you have business which requires personal attention in Baltimore. A nniperx,,ry Lev ture.—On last Sunday evening we had the plea s ure of listening to an address be Rev. David R. Kerr, delivered in Dr. Pressly's church, Allegheny. It was on the occasion of the Anniversary et the Allegheny Ladies' Tract Society. The subject was "Christian Zeal," from Galatia: 4—a and was very ably treated by the learned gentlemen. The church was crowded to its winosr capacity, and a collection was taken up at the close for the benefit of the Tract Society, the proceeds ri which mast have been considerable. Pitteitargh and Cleveland Railrontl.—We yester day called attention to the change of time in the Pittsburgh and Cleveland Railroad. Fred Know lan is the traveling agent for this road, and is now in our city. Fred is a good, clever fellow, we;: known as a railroad man of considerable experience. We would want no better guarantee of the manage went of this road tban the fact that such men are employed as ite agontg. Small Pox in the County Jail.—We have beard of no new cases of this disease within the prison walls since last week. We think the precautions taken by the authorities of vaccinz3ating the prison ers and removing the infected has checked th , disease in the beginning, and preven'od its further spread. New oases, however, may occur, but we hope we shall not be under the necessity of recording any. Bradfi,rd'B Lect re.—A. B. Bradford, of Neu Castle, lectures i'his evening, before the Librar) \ ssocintion, on " Philosophy of Reform." It is theme he will not tail to wake interesting and in structive, and de.ierves a full'house. Forney, of the Philadelphia " Press," has announced his intention to lecture here duffle time during the month. Lb-figs.—We certainly do not wish any of our read era the disagreeable necessity of purchasing and using medicines, bu , we wish to call their attention to the fact that C. 11. He keeps everything usually found in a well appointed orug store, besides a large selection of per !emery, fancy goods, soaps, hair oils of every de acription, and a supply cf cigars and tobacco of the Guest flavor. Bishop Simpum-1118 gentleman, who has fur FOlllO time been absent, on a tour through Europe. returned to this city on Sunlay night. His health is improved, though he is st.ll far from being well. His last sermon was preached in London, some two months since. He will not be able to resume his duties at present, as his health is not sufficiently established to warrant such an exertion. J/iv, Bridpoi.—This lady gave her first reading in this city last evening to a small audience. We re gret that she was not Lotter sustained, as she is a g iod reader, and deserves a liberal support. She will repeat the entertainment on Wednesday evening. en which occasion she will read the Fall of Lucknow, May Queen, Hiawatha, .4.c. when we hope she will have a crowded house. Mupie,ll Soiree.—Those of our readers who were present at the entertainment of Professor J. T. Warn eliuk some weeks since, will be gratified to bo learn that he will in connection with his pupils, repeat the concert on next Tuesday evening, at Lafayette Hail. The proceed. are to be applied to Passavant'i Infirm ary, and the Mercy hospital, and we heartly wish him a lull house. Another Firs.—On Sunday morning, a bed in the house of Mr. rb4innii, on Second street, took fire ; fortunately, before serious damage had ensued, the bed was thrown into the street. The house was saved, hut everything in the room in which the fire •,ririnatvd was destroyed. (W.A.,/ John IV. of Philadelphia, will be in Pittsburgh during next week, and we hope we shall then bane the pleasure of hearing the lecture announced sonic time since, but postponed on an c,,uot of his unavoidable absence. odd F. hall.—Work has been resumed no Odd Fellows' Hall, and we understand that the build tug will be rapidly push6d forward to completion. iiocernor Faster is also at work on his Theatre, which will be finished about the last of April .' , ,'t,ica-i4.L—Yeterilay quite a:change was preeepdblo in the health of Munroe Stewart.
