THIRTY-FIFTH CONGRESS FIRST SESSION Yesterday's Proceedinge SENAfi Ttko Senate is not in session to day HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. THE LAWRENCE, STONE & CO. AFFAIR The Sergeant-at- Arms having reported that he had., in obedience to the order of the House, arrested John W. Wolcott, ho was required to bring him before the bar. The Speaker, in pursuance of the resolution adopted ou motion of Mr. Stanton, asked Mtn what excuse ho had for not answering the question, pro p,modod by the Select Committee, whether he hod received isoy money or securities from LaWrence, Stone & Co., sometime in March last, to the amount of thirty thousand dollars, more or loss; and whether he was now prepared to iituiiver that and all other questions ? The witness was sworn by the Speaker as to the truth of his written'reply, which was to the effect that he was here in obedience to the order of tho House, to answor for alleged contempt committed by him. He assured the, House in all sincerity that ho did not design nor suppose ho was guilty of such an offence, and respectfully asked until Monday to purge himself of the charge of contempt, and fully justify his conduct, and ho wished again to consult his Mr. Stanton moved that the indulgence be granted, and that he be remanded into the custody of the Ser goant-at-Arms, and hare the benefit of his coun,:el. Mr. Cochrane said it must be a very retnaritable circumstance to justify any gentleman to raise objec tions; but he could not do otherwise than interpose his protest ag.tinst the delay. Mr. Clemens concurred in Mr. Cochrane's views. The witness admitted indirectly that he had received money. Why not answer distinctly. Why seek do. lay? Mr. Stanton's resolution passed. MARYLAND CONTESTED ELECTION Mr. Boyce, from the Committee on Elections, made a report in the case of Brooks, who contests the seat of Davis, of Maryland. The former •charges fraud aad violence, and asks for a new election ; he says the authorities of Baltimore are implicated in the frauds, and cannot be depended upon to extend pru toction to society. Witnesses were examined before the committee, after which a resolution was passed deeming it inexpedient to grant the prayer of Brooks asking for the appointment of a committee to take testimony.. . . Mr. Phillips made a minority report, stigmatizing the election proceedings in Baltimore as a gross mockery upon political independence and popular riereignty, and concludes with a resolution empow ering the Committee on Elections tc send for persons and papers, and to examine into the facts. The consideration of the subject was postponed till Monday. Mr. Hoard said that rumors were afloat involving the rights and dignity of the House, and asked leavo to offer a resolution for the appointment of a com mittee to investigate whether attempts had been made by persons connected with the Exectittve De pailment, or persons acting under their advice, to Influence the action of the House, directly or indi. roctly, by promise or intimidation, or giving or with holding patronage. After considerable debate the House, by a vote of 108 against SS, decided that Mr. Hoard's resolution seas not a question of privilege. The House then adjourned till Monday. SANFORD'S INVIGORATOR, REQUIRED TO CURE ANY ONE trAibled with Liver Complaints, runless the , most dee• orate of cases, when the mond bottle will, with scarce 0 . single failure, restore the patient to health and vigor. We wish to call the attention of all to these facts, that the In• vigorator is compounded by a phi skint Who has wed it in his practice for the past twenty years with a success almost credulous, and that it is entirely vegetable, being.composed wholly of gums. Some idea of the strength of these gums may be formed . when it is known one bottle of the Invigorator contains as muchetreng* as one hundred doses of Calomel without any 'of its deletesZus effects. We know there Is nothing now b,fore the American pub lic, prepared with each skill by a sciontillocuan, particularly for diseases of the Liver, ae Dr. Fiiinford's Invigorator, or Liver Remedy. It has attai.•ed a reputation second to no other article in the world, simply because It rest on its own merit. To convince all by teal that it is all Its proprietors claim it to ho, if any of oar readers are suffering from such diseases as are described in Dr: llanford'a advertisement, we know of know remedy that will so surely cure them as the Invigorator. The Invigorator cures sick Headache. Take one or two teaspoonfuls at each attack and it will soon disappear. Perk an overloaded stomach, or when food rises or sours, take the Invigorator after eating, awl it will not prove disagreeable or oppressive. For lleartbuin, Palpitation, or Difficult Breathing, take a tea poonfo I onco or twice daily. For Less of Appetite, Languor or Isstlessness, the medicine is invalu able. Itvvill restore the appetite and make the food digest well. Nightmare, take a teaspoonful on retiring, and the demons of dream-laud will all be fairies. After eating a hearty dinner, take a dose of Inviicorator and it will relieve all oppression or fullness. 'I h Invigorator is a Liver Beme• dy of unequaled virtue, acting directly on that organ, cur ing Dyspepsia, Jaundice, Moms Attacks, Dysentery, Piles, Worms, and all Female obstructions, for which it too no equal. _ _ We know there is nothim; now Were the American pub lic prepared with each skill by a oeientilic mon, particular ly for diseases of the Liver, as l r. 8 ,nford's Invigorator, or Liver Remedy. It has attained a reputation second to no other article in the word, simply beeause it rests on its owu merit. To convince all by trial that it is all Its proprietors claim it to be, if any of our readers are suffering from such diseases as ate described in Dr. rtanford's advertisement, wrr , know of no remedy that will so surely maw them as the Invigorator. There has lately been brought to our notice a medicine that seems to possess wundeilul, curative and healing pro perties in diseases of the Liver, Stomach and Digestive Ors Kano. It cause to ❑s.with so many testimonials in its favor_ that wu hero noted its eflbcts in some of the worst cases of continual dibility, caused by derangel liver, and in every instance the effect was to relieve or give is permanent cure, Dr. Sanford's ins igeratur, or Liver Remedy is what wo re• far to. We always hare b. en credulous about cures by pat ent medicines, but wo are convinced that this medicine, for family use, is not overrated by the best of recommendations it het. Our advlce is, for all troubled with Indigestion,Dee bility or Rowel Csumlsiut, to get a bottle and try it; our word for it, rel'ef will be experienced. lILESbINGS TO THE INVALIDS who RHO Dr. Sanford's Invigor ator, for it will relieve them of their pains as soon as it is taken into their stomach. Pain and — mistaty cannot exist where the Invigorator it used, for it will as surely drive them away, as daylight Will banish darkness, of this tuere can b no doubt to th so who try it, for it carries conviction with every dose taken. Another evidence is the thousandtt of certificates from those who floe it or have been cured by it, Try one bottle, ii it does not benefit, then we aro mistaken. P.RIUY O.NE DOLLAIL PZB.
