TO THE FILLMORE MEN OF NEW
V OR K.
Our rea.ler. generally and those to whom these
remarks are addr, ssed, especially, may think
this a strange caption for and article in the
Poet. But the information we propose to ma
vey cannot be found in any Filltnoro or Fremont
organ in Pennsylvania or New York. We there
fore think ii our duty to rand these few words
to the ' , Hinton• men of the State of New Yo-k
You are aware that an election for State officers
and meinlit-ri , of rongres. , rehles off in this State
on the I ith of I citobtir,—but you tray 11.0
aware that your brothers iu l'eunqyvania are
fully unit, I with the Fremont into in the top
port of cittoliilates for State eflicee , and , ir. near
ly all the tl:iiitricno for rnerahPrs of Congr.,..
In New I . ,rk, }nu elpim to he the champion,
the Union of the States--the opponents of a 1..-
litionism in all it. •iliape. --you are abused an I
defamed by the woolly head e-gan, of p•ur
State—you are denounced by them as bru
talized beaAs. - revlsin wi'h -1.K.1 whisky' . and
"rowdyism. - You, therefore, cannot but be. 0--
tonished to lesrn that here in Penusylvaiiia.
there is ',at ea, Starr el•pcsel to the Den:
crate that that ticket eouipo , ,l of zi.c- rabid
abolition Fremonter. Vte thought there WV. ,
One Fillmore man out of the three, but find they
are all three Fremont men You will be cov
ered with shame for the :ter of your co
partisans, when you are toll that in almost every
Congressional district of the state your friends
are aiding the wmdly heads to send iisunttn
candidates to Congress, and shouting- as loud as
they can for the State ticket composed of th-ee
rank woolly heads, Phelps, Laparte and Cochran.
But the folly of the Fillmore party of Penn
, sylvania has a further extent—their treachery to
the avowed principles of the Fillmore organiza
tion, which professes to be eminently national, is
purely gratuitous —rendered without the faintest
hope_of present reward or future politics) bene
fit. They will gain no vote. f.r Fillmore at the
November election either here ur elsewhizte,
while they lose by this mi-erahle, truckling fusion,
all the advantages ut an independent organizi
tion iu ail thing-, witeout which nu party can
ever expeet to succeed, or to have the respect ~f
thinking, honorable men. And to crown all - to
make the preditiament of the Fillmore party of
Pennsylvania still more anomalous —they are not
certain by any manner of means of securing
the triumph of the woolly head ticket, which
they were cheated into supporting with slavish
obedience. No: Theie inigut be some 91111110 w
Of excuse for thcoe of 01.. Fillmor e party hero
who hate the Democrats, if they toll be sure
they could by this revolting coalition prostrate
their old opponents in l'ennsylvania. lint this
poor excuse is not left the Fillmoreites No sen
sible man of either of the fused parties expe
rimmed in political contests, claims a certain vie,
tory over the Democrats The moat eauguine of
them, when they repudiate bragging, and speak
the words of truth and soberness, cannot say
that the fusion ticket will certainly buceeed.
And so the Fillmore men of Pennsylvania have
the enviable position of hyenas for the aboli
tion lions while they are out hunting down
Union Democrats. And when the game shall he
won, as piea , es GO,l it will ant be wen, no part
of the spoils can possibly fall to their share.
In New York, it . the Fillmore men could make
a thorougo union with the Fremonters, they
might carry the State The chances of that
would be much better than the chances of fusion
in Pennsylvania. But the Fillmore men of New
York, we are confident, could not be brought to
unite with the woolly heads for the sake of heat
ing the Democrats thrice over. And they can
understand the position of their brethren in
Pennsylvania, and the value and tendency of
their efforts in this campaign for the fusion ticket

oad Subscription.
Is it not strange that Mr. Gazzam is unahle to
contradict or explain his conduct in the matter
of the Steubenville Railroad ? Are the charge ,
of double dealing and trickery of which he
stands charged true? We confess in the absence
of any denial on his part, we are inclined to
consider him in a dilemna from which he can
only escape by withdrawing from the canvass
The people of the county will not consent that a
man who has tricked them into a heavy tax, to
pay interest on Railroad Bonds, shall represent
them in the Legislature.
Mr. Gazzam subscribed $6,000 to the stock of
the Bail Road, which he refused to pay, and now
alleges, as we are informed, that he only lent the
use of his name in that case to deceive the city
BTails and county Commissioners into a 501-
4 iptiop of a large amount of Bonds. The city
coutztyll Ives - deceived and did make large
subseriptiotrEroAr—l l sloo,ooo—for which they is
sued Bonds. The Road has not been finished
ant cannot be without further aid. The oon.re
quence is that our citizens will have to be taxed
largely to pay the interest on these Bonds. The
interest on $1,000,000, at 6 per cent per annum.
is $60,000. How will our citizen tax-payers
like to have $60,000 added to their annual amount
of taxes? Mr. Gazzam was mainly instrumen
tal in bringing our citizens into the condition we
refer to, and we believe they will so express
express themselves on the 2d Tuesday of this
month at the ballot box.

This certificate can be backed up by affi

Mr. Collier he compared the " Irish and Dutch,"
as he called them, to the hogs, and thought tt y
resembled each other in every respect, but the

of the Germans and Irish to elect hint to a tat

THE ORDERS SENT TO KANSAS
The leaders of the shriekers ' have sect
orders to Kansas that none of the free state
men must vote there at the October election
They want to have another pro•slavery triumph
to shriek about, so they are to let the election go
by default once more, and then lie about "border
ruffianism." That is the game now. Are the
people blind enough to be deceived any longer by
what Bennett calls "the Black Republican ras
cals They say themselves that the free :Rate
men outnumber the pro-slavery men four to one :
yet they are all to stay at home, and let the
election go by default. Then they will have some
more capital to shriek about. The white dwel
lers in Kansas are slaves indeed if they obey
these rascally shriekers any longer.
Meeting at Wilkins Hall
Considering the brief notice given, the meet
ing last evening at Wilkins Hall WWI one of the
largest and most enthuthiastic of the campaign.
W. A. Stokes, Esq., was the first speaker, and
enchained the audience in a speech of extraordi
nary power and eloquence. This gentleman is
always effective, but his effort last evening was
of surpassing power. He spoke more than an
hour, and was listened to with marked attention
throughout.
After Mr. Stokes concluded the meeting w ag
addressed by Gen. Wilson, of Ilu.ntingdon, who
was rapturously applauded throughout. After
which the meeting adjourned.

Miura. FL•su'ag s take this Opportunity of
Inferrefiog yso of the benefits I have dm ivod from Dr.
Wl.aue's valtratile Pills. I have for two years past been af
flicted with a severs pain over the eyes, accompanied with a
nervousness and a sense of dizziness;
a malady beyond the
power and skill of our physicians to relieve .and cure,
consist, as far as I myself could Judge, by a diseased state of
the liver and stomach. Soma of the doctors tried bleeding,
and various other remedies were tried, but all In vain, fur
the deep-rooted disease still stuck fast. At last I procured a
hoz of your valuable Liver Pills from a druggist here, and
leel, after taking a portion of them, that the disease sad
painful sensation over the eyes has almost entirely left me.
will clz* by advising all those afflicted as I have 'been, to
procure the valuable medicine at once, and save much time
and pain, 'with little expenie. With sincere gratitude and
reaped, I remain )01M, respectfully,

becomes continued, and much harder to etre. KENNEDY'S
MEDICAL DISCOVERY Is now among the meet popular
medicines of the day, and may be said to be the only cure
for humors in existence. And we would suggest to any who
may be suffering with Scrofula, Erysipelas, or any of the

them laden with the testimonials of thousands who have
been cured.
