THE
SIXTH ANNUAL EXHIBITION
OF THE
PENNSYLVANIA
STATE AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY,
WILL FE HELD
AT PITTSBURGH
On SEPTEMBER 30th, and on
OCTOBER Ist, 3d and 3d, 13511.
144 Hon. O. WALKER. Sficretary.
The State Fait..—ln less than one week from this
time the sixth annual exhibition of the Pennsylvania
Agricultural Society commences in this city. With
out doubt it will be the largest and most magnificent
exposition of maiinfuctures, of agricultural produc
tions anti of art, ever held in our noble old Com
monwealth—in this and of it at least—and will be
attended by a coneoitso of people °seceding any
similar exhibition in the Iron City. Persons intend
ing to place articles on exhibition should make early
application to the Seeretary " to make assurance
doubly sure" of getting a good position. Let the
artisans—the cunning workers in wood andiron in
the two. cities—and the skillful tillers of the soil in
Allegheny and adjoining counties, be there with
their choicest specimens of industry and art, to show
our Philadelphia friends that if we cannot exceed
we can at leant rival them in that which constitutes
the true "Wealth of Nations." The State Exhibi
tion hold at Powelton, near the Quaker City. in 1854,
is said to have been a superb affair. If we try we
can throw it in the shade, for it was held during the
famine and pestilence year, which ought to hare
been great drawbacks. The prize list is open to ell
our sister Stator. We forgot to Inaction the other
day that articles and animals for exhibition will he
carried free over the Pennsylvania Railroad, the
Pitn%tirgh, Fort Wayne and Chicago Railroad, the
Allegheny Valley Railroad and the Pittsburgh anti
Connellsville It - tilrotol, and they will issue eleursion
tickets for visitors. A new feature will be a harrow
ing match, v, hick is to come off immediately atter
the plowing. match on Friday morning. The An
nual Address is to be delivered on Friday afternoon.
I,y the lion. tloorg,o W. Woodward, of the Supreme
Beach. The otwasion is certainly worthy of a greet
turn out upon the part of the people, and from ap
pearances they will certainly be there.

THE LATEST NEWS
BY TELEGRAPH.
To Inspectors of Elections, Telegraph
Operators, Newspapers, and Reporters
throughout the Union.
New YORK, September 23.—The public will look
for the result of the Presidential election on the fish
of November. To enable the newspapers of the
Union to declare the result on the following morn
ing, it will he necessary for Inspectors of Elections
throughout the United States to aid the telegraph
operators and editors in every town, village and oily,
and for the editors and reporters to aid each other.
This can ho done by confining their labors on the
night of the election to Cho President's vote alone.
Let the inspectors everywhere count the electoral
veto - first, and the telegraph . transmit that vote only
on the night of the election. Thin plan will enable
the press to announce the result the scorning after
the election, even if Cho election be a close one. Wu
hope this plan will be adopted ; no other will suc
ceed. It will simplify the labor and make it easier,
save time and satisfy the people of the country.
City editors will promote the object in view by
publishing in their editorial columns this notice IlLiCe
or twice a week until the 4th of November.
