PENNSYLVANIA
STATE AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY,
AT PITTSBURGH
On SEPTIORIELER 30th, and on
OCTOBER Ist, 2d and 3d, 1868.
After a tour of some weeks through the Northern
and Western States, we passed through New
Brighton on Friday evening, and remained there for
a few hours, during which time we were delighted to
witness the euthu.siattism and zeal manifested in
that stronghold of Black Republioanism by a Spartan
band of patriotic Detnoerals, who are determined,
notwithstanding the strong current of fanaticism
that exists in that locality, to support the glorious
cause of freedom and nationality. That great prin
ciple of. justice that guarantees equality to all the
States, aseeedeney to none, and which is now rapidly
gaining a permanent feeling in the hearts and minds
of the American people, from tha Atlantic to the Pa
cific., which will result In the triumphant election of
that emieaut statesman, Buchanan, to the Presidency
en the 4th of seat November. Miss Mary J. Glass,
the accomplished and intelligent daughterof John P.
Glass, Esq., showed me a large and elegant flag made
by the ladies of New Brighton to adorn a hickory
pole, one hundred and sixty feet high, which is to be
raised there next Wednesday at two o'clock. A very
large meeting is expected, and mat y of our best ora
tors are invited. We do hope tt a Pittsburgh will be
fully represented there on that occasion, es ample
and ostensive arrangements are made for the eon
veniceoe of large delegations from the neighboring
counties. Hurrah for the Democracy of New
Brighton!
A L 'A.
A G0, , (1 bien.—We have beard it suggested that
the Coon -if, oaf this and Allegheny pity have in con
tetuplatiot the project of inviting the city fathers and
editorial col ~f Chicago, Dubuque, Afilwuukie i
Rock his od, Doveoport, Peoria, and other points, to
visit this city upon the opening of the Pittsburgh,
Fort he and Chicago Railroad in November
nest. This movement upon the part of our city au
thorities, merchants and manufacturers, would doubt
less ho of the highest importance and attended with
solid advantages to all parties. We have been much
behind sister cities in these matters, alai have sorely
i'olt the pressure of our isolated condition. There are
thousands in the Great %Vest who would relish a trip
of this kind, where an opportunity to inspect our
forges, iron mills, glass manufacture! at.d thousand
workshops for which our city Ia noted, and for the
products of which the completion of the Pittsburgh,
Fort Wayne and Chicago Railroad will afford a cheap
and direct outlet.

ores held at their Club Room on Saturday evening.
The meeting was addressed by Messrs. Rosenbaum
and Lippert in the Herman language in a very able
and powerful manner, followed by Messrs. John J.
Mitchel and D. Ihmsen. Mr. I. Is one of the old
line Whigs who have so nobly taken their stand upon
the Democratic platform. At the conclusion of his
address the audience gave him three eheers with a
hearty good will. t. Magee, Esq., being present,
was unanimously called upon fur an address, where
upoe the gentleman came forward amid the cheering
