FRIDAY MORNING
SIXTH ANNUAL. EXHIBITION
PENNSYLVANIA
STATE AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY,
AT PITTSBURGH
On SEPTEMBER 30th, and on
OCTOBER let, Ed and 3d, 1868.
24 ROOT. 0. WALKER, Secretary
‘' Freedom and Fremoni."—To hear the shrieks of
the Republicans for freedom, to read the mottoes and
devices on their banners, or to listen to the harangues
`s of their orators, one might suppose they were the
most tolerant of men—for intolerance and liberty
cannot dwell. together. Yet we have heard of a lit
tle occurrence in Allegheny that shows completely
, -the hollowness of their protontions. An acquaint
ance in the employ of one of the worshippers at the
shrine of "Freedom and Fremont," obtained permis
sion from a gentleman whose building adjoined to
raise a Buchanan Hag which he availed himself of.
When his employer beard of it, he demanded that it
be taken down, but this the Buchanan man declined
doing, whereupon the Fremonter angrily rushed up
stairs and hauled in the emblem of Democracy with
his own right hand! Wasn't that bravely dune?
But we don't believe it has aided the canoe of "bleed
ing Kansas" a bit; for our Democrat declares that
he will not only vote for Buck and Breek, but that
be not work for a man who hangs out Fremont
and Dayton flags and denies to Others the privilege
of expressing in the same way their political prefer
ences.
Earnings of the Pittsburgh, Fort Iraytte and Chi
cago Railroad. —A' statement of the receipts of this

papers, but we believe it was more or less imperfect,
and have therefore procured the following from an
official source:

feat month of consolidation. Against the first of
November the cum will he running direct to Chicago
over the P., Ft. W. C. road to Plymouth, and thence
using the Southern Michigan and Northern Indiana,
from Latrobe.
Will ft never rain r —The wind yesterday blew
"great guns"—Ge the sailors have it—throwing
more dust into the eyes of the dear people even than
• Black Republican orator. The earth is dreadfully
,PirChed, and it is no wonder, for we believe it is
forty days and forty nights since Mr. Aquarius last
_overturned Ids watering pot on this part of creation.
Our sufferings is intolerable and not to be borne
stanch longer. It is repot : twigs an absolute fact that
-the children to the. dried up and particularly dusty
.wards are getting so soiled for sant of rain that
-when they get mixed up their mothers hare to scrape
them and expend a liberal amount of soap and
meter before their darling offering can be recognized.
In 6(l=6qt:waft of this many fond mammas have
done a vast amount of gratuitous washing of other
people's children, but unfortnnately they cannot dis
.cover the mistake until they have "removed the
deposits." Will it never rain / That is the question
.we would ask the Clerk of the Weather, if we could
~get his ear.
P. S. "We stop the press to announce" that our
. prayer has been heard..
Theft.—Two brothers, named William and L. Ab
solute, were arrested gesterday. charged with steal
leg a watch from a band engaged on nne of the renal
beats running to this city. The defendants worked
Not another boat, and were heard to say by one of the
Alriverst diat they would steal the prurct utur', watc h,
ir they 'could do eo without being detected. The
watch was missed shortly afterwards, and the driver
tistoreeing the complainant of what he had hoard,
they Were errestedon suspicion. At the Mayor's of
fice they seknowledge.d their guilt, und expressing
sorrow for their °game they were dietharged, with
the stipulation that th,7 should pay the prosecutor
the fall value of the watch.

Irretnonter in Lim&o.—An individual with A path
';nndee badge pinned to the loft breast of his COOl, at
*pendia hour on Wednesday forenoon found his 14.:1'
into the cellar under the Postofftco, where be stood
gazing at 4,he passersby of both ;cries. Eome of
the attacheescof that inst.mtion, hearing of the mat
tar, quietly locked the door and kept the curiosity
loving Black Republican in limbo until 4 P. M.,
when he was permitted to depart in peace. He was
thus deprived of the opportunity of marching in the
procession, and, we understand, feels his disappoint
ment keenly. _

The DattilxiXote Convention. 1
BALirDfolail, September 18.—The Convention re
assembled this lemming. The committee ou iesolu.
tions reported through the chairman, Cloy. lidnt, the
following series of resolutions:
Resolved, That the Whigs in the United States
assembled. hereby declare their reverence lbr the
Constitution, and their unalterable attachment to the
national Union, and their fixed determinate+ to do
all in their power to preserve them for themselves
and posterity. They have no new principleseo nn
nounce, no new platform to establish, but are donlent
to rest where their forefathers bare rested, upon the
Constitution of the United Settles, wishing no safer
guard—no higher law.
Resolved, That we regard with the deepeei anx
iety the present disordered condition of our national
affairs. A portion of the country is ravaged by civil
war, and large sections of our population rue ein.
biuered by mutual recriminations, and we distinctly
truce these calamities to a culpable neglect of duty
by the present national administration.
Iltselved, That the government of these United
States was formed by the conjunction or political
unity of widespread geographical sections, materially
differing not only in climate and products, but in
social, domestic institutions; and that any cause
which shall permanently array these sections in po
litical hostility. and organized parties founded only
on geographical distinctions, must inevitably prove
fatal to the continuance of our national Unit n.
Rev./red, That the Whigs of the United States
declare the fundamental article of political faith to
be absolute necessity for avoiding geographical par
ties. The danger so clearly discerned by the Father
of our country, founded on geographical . distinction.
has now become fearfully apparent in the agitation
now convulsing the nation, which meet be arrested

Union from dismemberment and the name of Amer
ica from being blotted from the family of civilised.
nations.
Reeolrcd, That all who revere the Constitution and
the Union must look With alarm at all parties in the
field in the present Presidential canvass, one claim
ing only to represent sixteen Northern States. and

Business continues extremely dull; the dry wea
ther still prevails, and our rivers have receded to . the
lowest point. The only business doing to any extent
is that of transportstiun; our railroads, east and
west, are crowded with goods destined for this and
other markets. The receipts of l'roduee during the
past week were quite limited. being scarcely Eufficient
to meet the wants of trade.
Money is still in good demand at previous quota
tions, and our banks are discounting to a liberal ex
tent the unexceptionoble paper offered. We have
heard of no distinguishing feature in tho market since
our last report.
The New Yorkly Tic,. of Wednesday says:—
There is an_ ample, though nut very cheap supply of
money, and the stuck and disc. - milt brokers are readi
ly accommodated at 7 per cent., subject 1, , immediate
demand, and S a 9 per cont. fi,r strictly prime I nper ;
only the very short dates are current ut Bank at 7 per
cent ,as the general rule. The Banks moved steadi
ly hot cautiously, and aru mostly discounting their
full receipts. The Sub-Treasury received to-day
$222,002, paid $211,726, and held at the close $ 13 ,-
741,316.
