The Black Republican Mass Convention This assemblage, which has been brewing for some six weeks, bad its procession yesterday. 'The most strenuous exertions had been made up to the hour of rendezvous. No expense was spared, no efforts were withheld. Runners had been out all the previous part of the week and some iu last week to blow the horn for Kansas and announce the approach of thb day of the political messiah, sitting on a woolly horse Work-shops were closed, and the laborers urged into the ranks. Whole trains of cars were chartered, together with the bridge to Allegheny, and every incitement either to curiosity, or fanati cism or folly was adopted. We had the procession aceurately numbered by six gentlemen who were in positions to see every man, woman and child. The highest count was as follows Men Minors over 14 Women Little girls Littlo boys Negroes Infants at the breast Whole number. This conglomeration proceeded to the North Com mon in Allegheny, where they were addressed by A. W. Loomis, E.g., Cassius M. (lay, sod Thomas Wil liams, Eq. Speeches were also made by J. C. Jehle, of this city. iu German, Juba M. Ktrkpatriek, Esq., and Wm. 11. Gibson, of Ohio. The occasion was ono of great dust and jam, and we doubt not the Black Republicans think it was a famous victory." We have no desire to disparage the "show" of the opposition, and we nee no such epithets as " fizzle," with which they vainly tried to asperse our demonstration ; but we have every reason to be lieve it was far behind what was expected for it. The great guns, Sumner t Co., who were to go off, did not arrive upon the held. P. S.—The exercises on the North Common werb closed by a brief address front the Rev. Alexander Stevenson, D. D., L. L. El., wl, we understand, avowed himself strongly in favor of Col. J. C. Fre moot. Of course the Itlark Republicans must mix up ttMir polities with the her. Dr. S.'s religion ! What a delightful compound! Theuere.—Tbe houses have increased nightly since the engagement of the Conway., but la,it evening they were greeted by a house perfectly crammed, rammed, jammed, full from ph to dome. Mr. C.'s " Ingomar," and Mrs. C.'s "Perthenia," were greeted by frequent, yet _judicious applause, which we take it is the tine test of merit, as well as popular appreria. tion. They were well sustained by Mr. Foster's company. The piece for to-night is Schiller's admi rable drama entitled " The Robbers," in which both Mr. and Mrs. Con way appears. There in ales an ex cellent farce following, in which Mr. A. W. Young, one of the best low comediane we hove over had in our city, appears as the funny tnan. it:as:cid, —Mr. Hebert Sharp, a farmer, residing '2l Mites from ML Jackson, Lawrence county, was Lund hanging by the neck, in his own barn,. on the in t. lie was between silty and seventy years of age, and owned ono hundred and sixty acre! of land. ' BALTDEOER, September I7.—The city is thronged with delegates to the Convention, and persona desi rous of listening to its proceedings. The day:is pro pitious to a gallant show, and the streets are all bus tle and activity. Every train that arrives is bringing accessions to the throng. The sessions of the Con vention are to be held in the immense ball of the Maryland Institute, and the arrangements for the accommodation of delegates and spectators are ad mirable; the hall has been handsomely decorated. The delegates occupy seats enclosed in the center of the ball on a spacious platform. A spare of one hundred feet is left on either side for the audience, which, together with the galleries, will accommodate four thousand spectators. SECOND DESPATCH. The ball is crowded. There is a full attendance of delegates, representing twenty-six States, all ex cept California, Wisconsin, Texas, lowa and Michi gan. At twelve o'clock the meeting was called to order by William Schley, of Baltimore. Ex-Governor Hunt, of New York, was chosen temporary Chair man, and made an eloquent speech in acknowledg ment of the honor conferred upon him. He spoke of the present critical position of affairs of the country, and the danger menaced against the perpetuity of the Constitution from sectional agita tion and sectional parties. He called upon the Whigs of the Union, in the exercise of their Conservative efforts, to interpose to preserve peace. They had assembled on this auspicious day in the name of .the Constitution and the Union, and he urged his fellow Whigs to stand in their might to rebuke fanaticism and sectionalism, and patriotically labor to secure to posterity the precious inheritance secured to us by our fathers. He expressed the pleasure he felt in meeting such a number of that gallant old Whig band, which in times pest had done such good service in preserving the interests and honor of our common country. Ho, for one, did not admit that the old Whig party was dead, nod here was the proof. When he had concluded, at the suggestion of a delegate, Washington's Farewell Address was read by Hiram Ketcham amid great appluse. On motion, Henry W. Thomas, of Virginia, wa r appointed temporary secretary. A committee of one from each State represented was appointed on permanent organisation, beaded by David Paul Brown, of Ponnsylvanie. The hall was packed, and theta was intense enthusiasm. A Committee en Resolutions was appointed during the morning session, of winch Robert Y. Conrad. of Va., is Chairman, and they were instructed to pre pare an address to the people of the United States. The Committee announced that it would report to morrow morning. The Convention was thou addressed by tiovernor Graham, of North Carolina; Granger, of New York : Rives, of Virginia ; Janney of Virginia, and Lunt. of Moss. Mr. Grabatu's speech was thrilling; it else trifled the audience. and when he expressed his pref. °ranee for Millard Fillmore, the whole house arose en 505555, cheering vociferously.
