M.- .'MP. 13110 Mrs. P.sajay made tette first appearance last evening before is Pittsburgh au dieace, in "Love and Loyalty." The play is coin. pamtively new—now at least in the West—and pos sesses altogether a very high order of merit, abound ing in sentiment and poetry. Mr. and Mrs. C. impressed all who were present most powerfully, and were called out at the end of the (list act, as well as at the close of the performance, when Mr. Conway made 'a decidedly neat speech, thanking the audi ence for their truly flattering welcome. They were well sustained by Miss Julia M. Cook, and Messrs. Leonard, Young and Tanuyhill, of whose particular excellencies we have not here space to speak. Mr. Nourse was decidedly imperfect in the text. The piece this evening is " Macbeth," with Mr. and Mrs. Conway as the hero and heroine. It will be a rich treat. We find the following highly laudatory article in the St. Louis Pilot: During the brief engagement of Mr. and Mrs. Con: way, wo have said but little about them: though we have had orTportunity to become acquainted with their claims to public favor, both as regards their private relations and their professional qualifications. As their engagement is about to close and they are leaving us fur another field of action, we shall do them the justice to speak out freely our honest con victions. They arrived In our city some two weeks since, almost, unheralded, and modestly assumed the duties of their vocation. The fame they acquired in the eastern cities was unknown to most of our citi- Rens. They were received, however, with that gene rosity and enthusiasm for which the people of St. Louis are proverbial. Their first appearance on our stage made a decidedly favorable impression • as wits clearly manifest from the commencement to the clo v e of the performance by the unmistakable demonstra tions of approbation. Night after night their amli enees have increased in numbers and enthusiasm, 'anti they have now established 'themselves nuiang the greatest favorites of the St. Louis pnhlir . Ai though we are not prepared to assort that their m•tirrg was faultless, we can aver that it gave cerium evi dences of the highest order of artistic talents and at' quirenicints. Last night Mrs. Conway took bar farewell benefit, and notwithstanding there were two other I,ene , l is in the city, the house was crowded with an inteih gen t and fashionable audience; and nothing could have been snore grateful to the feelings of the fair Lent, liciary" than the almost tumultuous applause with which she was constantly greeted throughout the performance. It was a triumph of which she has good reasons to be both proud and happy. She seemed to have recovered from the se, ere cold that marred in a measure soma o f her previous 1.:1 , qt and had full command sf her powerful, yet sweet and melodious voice. Her personation of Heed knell ing was a most intensely interesting performance. so truthful to nature as to elicit the warmest sympathiss of all present for that unfortunate yet lovely girl. The breathless stillness that prevailed, the tears that glistened in every eye, and the universal outbursts of applause that followed Mrs. C.'s reading of she letter, gave sufficient evidence of the surpassing excellence of that especial scene. We have seldom witoessed ; one so painfully exciting. We have neither time nor I room to,,,speak a$ we could wish of Mr. Conway's I Luke Fielding, die., he. ° " At a meeting of tto Fifth Ward Buchanan and Breckinridge Club on Saturday evening the nq;....v tag Committee on Steturisir . zati”. ;VW appOilatedt'an t.
