Horse Thief Arrested.—James Malloy was taken
into custody yesterday by officers Hamilton and
Moon,of the Mayor's police, on suspicion of having
stiffilaila mare and colt from Jonathan Neely, of Moon
township. le brought the animals to this city and
tra4ra them off to a butcher in the Diamond for a
dilapidated piece of horse flesh and ten dollars to
boot. Buepeeting that ho did not come by hie stock
honestly the officers arrested him, when he confessed
M what is stated above. He was committed for a
further hearing. The butcher has his own animal
again, and the mare and colt are at Patterson's liv

Steam Flouring Mill Burned.—The steam flour
mill of James Hill, a short distance from Steuber
vale, in Cross Creek township, in Jefferson county,
caught fire on Thursday morning, and burned to the
ground. The fire originated from the stack, and all
attempts to arrest the flames proved abortive. We
understand that there was a considerable amount of
wheat in the mill, which was also consumed. Loos
supposed to be from $5,000 to 6,000. No insurance,

of merchants and others at the exchange, asking

ture, to take into consideration the safety of the lives
of the sons and daughters of Massachusetts now en
dangered by the assaults of the border ruffians in
Kansas and to devise measures for their relief and
defence.

patients are doing well.
