What Does it Illeani
The depot of the Pennsylvania Railroad, at ten
o'clock last night, presented a very interesting ap
poaranee. Upwards of forty knights of the dark pan
tern from the two cities, were clustering around a
celebrated Johnston worshipper of Allegheny city.
who furnished them, gratuitously, exeurs:on tickets
to Lancaster and back ; and at a little distance was
seen a group of Fillmore men who were in profound
ignorance of the intentions of the voyageurs. Among
the most prominent of the excursionists wore Robert
M. Riddle, N. P. Sawyer, Dr, W. F. Fundenber,g,
James Sewell, Wm. Nogely, F. C. Flanegin, D. C.
Kammerer, J. D. Owens, Henry A. Wearer, D. 11.
Hazen, A. J. Barr, Dr. A.G. IWCandlese (temperance
man) and Benjamin Franklin King (High Constable.)
It was suggested that this array of intense Ameri
cans argnod that a meeting of the State Council is
to take place in Lancaster to-day, and that some
thing was on the tapir in relation to the Johnston
and Dayton, difficulty. This idea, moreover, was
strengthened when it was stated by the knowing ones
that Nat., who had been East for a week past, only
returned yesterday morning, and that it was at his
bidding (and through his free tickets) this formid
able delegation was gathered together.
A few thought it might be, possibly, en impromptu
Republican Convention in Lancaster, as a dozen or
more of Germans were also scattered around : but
their presence was ignored by the free-ticket-men.
who lot them pay their own way. Something is u%i
dently in the wind. They may be going on for the
purpose of selling their "Dutch"compatriot: , in
this county to the Fillmore men, who, we are credi
bly informed, also hold their State Council in Lan

Democratic Die tinge.
A beautiful hickory pole, un ards of one hundred
and twenty feet in height, was. erected in the Fifth
ward, on Saturday evening, by the Democracy of
that stronghold. After the pole hod been raised n
meeting was organized end excellent addresses were
delivered by Messrs. P. C. Shannon, P. R. Sts, er
and John 11. Bailey. The turnout ‘vns sery
and an abundance of enthusiasm was tuanifcsk.d.
Measures have been taken to organize a Buchannh
and Breckinridge Club, of which we shall speak
hereafter. This in a good move and should he emu
lated by the Democracy in every ward. borough cud
township in the county, where they have not .1
been established.
At. Lawrenceville, en Saturday evening, the Uv
rnocracy also held a meeting, at which a large num
bar of the unlerrified were present. Speeches were
delivered by Col. Wilson DECandless, Dr. Jonas R.
NEClinteek and J. N. C. Wearthy, Esq., who demon•
strated the principles of the party in a manner so
clear it utfdistinct that a wayfaring man though s
