P. Flenniken, lis.qs. The speakers wore listened to with the most marked attention, and but one sentiment appeared to animate the vast assemblage pres ent, viz : that the unholy conspiracy against the Union must be put down. The people are mov ing and the days of Black Republicanism are numbered. On Friday night, Col. Black addressed an im mense meeting held in the borough of Washing ton. In Washington, Fayette and Greene, the enthusiasm and confidence of the Democrats are unbounded. SOMERSET COUNTY, AND WEfiTMORELAND. You do not find it in any act of the President, unless the appointment of Reeder may he so con strued. I admit this error, forced on Mr Pierce, has done more to injure Kansas than any other single aot. Those who would make Reeder a Demi•Oisl will not like this admission —yet it is true. Sharps rifles did net accom plish more agitation on the Missouri border than did the unsteady course of the tired Governor of Kansas. Where then in the authority found for chary. ing the democratic party with desire for slavery extension It has ever been for confining sla very to constitutional limits, leaving the ytio.- tion of extension-to the people of the territories and status under the requirements of the con stitution as expounded by the Supreme Judicial tribunal of the land . The abstract question of the morality of sla very is left to the consciences of the individual members. Whatever northern Democrats may think of the impolicy or injustice of holding slaves, their southern brethren, with like respon sibilities to their God, hold that slaveholding in itself is not inconsistent with Christianity. If by the adoption of the principle of self government as contained in the Kansas Nebraska bill we are adjudged, improperly, to lean towards slavery extension, then only can the charge be maintained. How impracticable would any other doctrine prove as a hindrance to slavery. The territory of to-any anteing for admission ea a free State, may on the morrow, iu its sovereign capacity, and under its magna charta, adopt the institu tion of slavery, and vice versa. This power of change existed as well before as since the repeal of the Missouri Compromise act. The present slavery sentiment is indeed a political bagatelle— " a mountain," which, when approached, van ishes into a " mole bill." • Yonr recognised reporter says, that all you 4 , did was boldly to take the side of right against wrong, of liberty against slavery, and of consti tutional law against usurpation and outrage." Why not, in your horror of blasphemy, rising to sublimity in your advocacy of inspiration, strike down the infidelity that proclaimed one of Sharp's rifles to be worth 20 bibles in Kansas matters ? Why these omissions ? we have mated ourselves over and over again. The forgeries are so ingeniously exe cuted that several of the most experienced clerks in the Bank were unable to detect them. It was only after a bundle of suspected notes bad been minutely scrutinized by several persons that the minute difference between the false and the genu ine paper was detected, It was then found that out of a parcel of AS notes 87 were forged. The atteir Is so serious that orders have been given at the goverment offices not to receive notes in payment at all unless they are first marked as g•Joil by the Bank. Instances have been men toned to me today of notes offered in payment of stamp duties being refused.
