These papers are never satisfied with their own name long, and are continually growl ing because we will not allow them to steal ours. We were originally stigmatized as Democrats, we accepted the name, fought and won many victo ries under it. When the name became popular, the opposition tried to steal it and called us Lo roficoa. That was a terrible stigma, bat we fought for Old Hickory under it, and won. The party opposed to us now want to steal our good name again and give us the name of "Bucha- Our opponents having nominated the first filibuster, and nominated him because he was first and chief of filibusters, and understands cattle raising and financiering therefore, we propose the title of " FRNEBOOTERs " as most appropriate and expressive of their principles. They now use several words to express the prin ciples they advocate, such as free soil, free labor, free speech, free negro and Fremont, all of which can be' comprised in " Freebooter, - and rave them a useless expenditure of labor and money in setting up the type. THAT CONVENTION The fusion Convention nominated a Know- Nothing soft shell ticket, yesterday. One of the nounness was never a K. N.; hut all the rest, we presume, have seen Sam One than who, it i+ said, hails from Switzerland, was pot on the ticket in the hope that his name alone wouldlper suede the Germans to vote for the K. N.'s ! It is certainly a very low appreciation of Ger man character to suppose they will do any such thing. There were a great many disappointed men af ter that Convention adjourned. Some of the as pirants were cruelly treated. Sot, on the whole, the K. N.'s got far the best of the bargain. They defeated one of the best men in the county —Esq. Millar. Had be been at home, it is doubtful whether he would have allowed his name to be used before such a convention We shall give some attention to the candidates soon, commencing with the candidate for the Senate. FERIIOIII . AND CONOMISSIONAL MILZA E While Fremont was in the Senate, a propotiti“n was made to allow no member of Congress We.t of the Rocky Mountains more than $2,000 ex penses in the way of mileage. As he was gi t • ting $2,1500, Fremont voted against it, although his actual expenses were not one-fourth of that sum. Be was in the Senate but twenty three days, and was paid for it, therefore, at the rate of more then one hundred dollars a day, coun ting his extraordinary mileage. READ THIS ! BRITISH HATRED OF DEMOCRACY. Our neighbors" over the water" take a deep interest in the suedes!, of the Black Republican party, and urge the election of Fremont with ardor.. According to them, the success of th•it gentleman would greatly benefit and gratify the citizens of Great Britain. We have no doubt that such would be the case, and that the aboli tionists of the North would find powerful alto-s in the white slave drivers of Nlauchester .I.d London, Birmingham and Sheffield. ' DAN. RICE SEVERELY BEATEN. —At Hudson . New York, on Tuesday evening last, a couple "I' .'rowdies were put out of the circus of Dan. Rica 'for creating a disturbance. Subsequently, oue lof them named Burns came to the hotel where A Rice was staying, outrageously abused him, ~1 , knocked down a boy in his employ, and then ran 'off, pursued by Rice and two or three friends. The Hudson Star says: Mr. Rice being rather too quick on foot for Burns was nearly overhauling him, when on or near the corner of Warren and Third streets. Burns was stopped by Capt..Getorge H. Powers, who was than on-his way home, and as Rice came up he recognized Burns, and at once knocked him down. Rice not recognizing Capt. Powers,. and supposing him to be one of the party struck at him, when Powers &inched in with him, and while in this melee before there was was any chance for an explanation, a party headed by John H. Best came up and pounced upon Mr. Rice who was alone, and gave him a most un merciful flogging—John H. Best knocking him down and stamping upon him until ho plead for life. The John H. Best party then retreated for his saloon. In a few moments Mr. Rice's men came to his relief and they proceeded to the sa loon of said John H. Best, demanded admittance but where refused—whereupon they at once broke into and demolished his establishment, smashing everything and everybody that came in their way. All sorts of weapons were used, from a slung-shot to paving stones, and those who witnessd the scene, represent it as terrific in the extreme. After Mr. Rice's party had sat isfied themselves, they left town, without being successful in getting told of the instigators and prime movers in this disgraceful affair." THE SOLDIERS OF THE WAR OF 1812 AGAINST FREMONT.-All of the old soldiers in the war of 1812, whatever may be their political predilec tions, should vote against Fremont. When, in the United States Senate in 1860, he voted against an amendment to the Bounty Land Bili, introduced by Mr. Underwood, of Kentucky, extending its benefits to widows and.minor chil- Vixen of deceased soldiers in that war. This ha. mane Aovision Fremont voted against, and on account of it every old soldier in the war of 1812 sbordcf vote against him. If any doubts this vote of Fremont, they will find it recorded in the Congressional Globe for the Thirty-first Congress, on pages 3,005 to 3,007. ARTIFICIAL GRANITE—A new Building Male rial.—The Rochester Union says : "We have seen some specimens of this article for building purposes, which has a durable appearance, be side being handsome. This granite' is made of a composition of mud and lime. Thorough chemical tests have proven its indestructibility. It is moulded in blocks of five times the size of common bricks, and in admirable shape for building. Each block has a mortice through it, so as to pass a current of air through' gin centre of the entire wall of the building, and thin( pre vent frost from entering.
