Drum, formerly of Indiana county, who has recently removed to this city, was then intro duced and addressed the large andience in his usual sound and argumentative style. His speech was well received,' and we hope to hear from him, fret, quantly, in the same way, during the coming cam- Paign- E. P. Jones, Esq., followed Mr. Drum, and dealt "hard knocks," thick and fast, among the Know Nothings and Black Republicans. He is. a forcible and pleasing speaker, and the frequent cheers and applause with which his remarks were received, was „good evidence his auditors were pleased. Fire in Weitmoreland.—Last week the Woollen Factory owned by Jacob Baredy, and occupied by R. S. Irwin, at Jones' Mills, in Donegal township, Westmoreland county, was destroyed by 6ro. Too full sets of carding machines, and fulling and dyeing apparatus, and the household furniture and clothing of Mr. Irwin and family were destroyed. The tire had reached the bed-rooms, and the smoke nearly suffocated them before it was discovered. The village of Georgetown, in Placer county, had been destroyed by fire; loss $lOO,OOO. A large number of buildings were burned in Marysville ; loss $610,000. The town of Fair Play, Eldorado county, was visi ted with a destructive fire, causing a loss of $70,000. Numerous fatal shooting affrays in the Interior are recorded. Intelligence of the Cincinnati nominations had been received in California, and several ratification meetings had been held. Business bed been moderately active during the last fortnight, with fair interior trade and a moderate supply. The House concurred by a vote of 97 against 90 in the amendment substituting Mr. Pennington's proviso fur a similar one which the Senate struck out, providing that no money shall be drawn until the treason cases are dismissed. The House disadreed on the Senate's amendment restoring the appropriation of $20,000 for the eipen • ses of a future Legislature of Kansas by fire of a ma jority. CHI, AAR', August, 14.—An immense fire occurred last night at o'clock, on Clark street. in the neigh borhood of the Michigan Southern and Rock Hand freight depots. It commenced at a small hotel called the Walker House. and extended to Goss 3: Phillips' last factory. The Rock Island House, Robinson's warehouse, Rock Island freight depot. Michigan tt Southern freight depot and numerous loaded cars around the same were totally consumed, including freight valued at $lOO,OOO. The Rock Island machine shop and grain warehouse, the latter containing 200,500 bushels of grain took fire but were extinguished without damage. In Flint and Wheeler's warehouse 1.50,u0U bushels were saved with great difficulty. The total loss is estimated at from $150.0011 to $200,000. The insurance is not ascer tained.
