AUGUST 15 IRON AND IRON MANUFACTURE.—The following to a statement of the production of American Iron, for the last fifteen years : In 1840, the production of American Pig Iron was .2.5 —..-6,063 tone. tolBso, do do do- 563,751 do In 1855, do . do do 200,000 du Increase from 1840 to 1855.._ 225 per cent. The Railroad Record comments as follows upon these statistics : This is seven-fold the increase of American popu lation, yet it is not so rapid as the importation of foreign iron, which in the same period was about'3oll per cent. These facts show a Most remarkable state of things ; that the increased consumptionqlf 2 from now uses, is so very great, that no increase' oT production, however great, has bean able to keep, pace with it. This does not prove the inability of the American manufacturer to supply the demand; for his resources are inexhaustible, but does prove that, for many years to come, the demand for iron will be enMei,nt to secure a ready marker and good profits to this American producer. The following are the statistics of iron manufa.c tured in Cincinnati for 1855. ilandA employed_ ........ ........ 030 Population ...................................-. 30,000 Population dependent Gil the Butnoree 80,000 Value of Sian ofactures 46,000,000 These manufactures of iron are sold in every town and hamlet of the Mississippi Valley.
