Ora parallel between Brooks and Fremont in
Tuesday's Post, has excited the wrath of our
neighbors no little. We cannot help it. The
assault by Fremont on Foote was as ruffianly as
the assault of Brooks on Sumner. In one re
spect it was nioq disgraceful to Fremont. 11,
assailed a man smaller and much older than him
self. Brooks assailed a larger man than himself.
While blackguarding Brooks from day to day and
every day, our neighbors have no right to object
that Fremont he equally condemned for a similar

Both assailauts must have the same measure of
justice, no more no less.

one plank in the Republican plat forth, whether
adopted at ghilaxielphin or elsewhere,-is evidesitly
that there Blionhd be' tk i praotjoal amaigt%matiof of
the white mid black kcea.: , We make a few ex
tracts to show how they talk on this eubjoct.
The Gincinilati Enquirer extracts the follo!ing ,
from the Zething, a German Republican papa; In
Illinois:
" In our view of the principles of Republicanism,
we know of no inferiority of race in regard to social
and civil rights. In our eye the negro and the white
races stand side by side and on an equality. The
depreciating inferiority of the negro race exists only
in the theory of the so-called Democratic party of
this country."
That is a Crerman editor's views of the ease
We now extract from the Dayton Empere, (Re
publican) a few sentences to show how Republi
cans in that vicinity compare negroes with those
same Germane whose votes they are courting.
The Empire says:
"A Fremont Black Republican. whose name we
have, said to a Democrat on Monday that 'he would
rather his daughter should marry a nigger than a
Dutchman any day.'
Another the soma day told another Democrat that
' a nigger waR n d—d sight better than a Dotchnmn
all the time.'
Yet another of the same stripe told the Probate
Judge of this county. a day or two age, 'that he
would not feel at liberty to object to his slaughter
marrying n respectable negro, no more than if he
were white.' rhis is the way Fremont men talk."
Henry Clay some years ago sail that abolition
ism would lead inevitably to amalgamation of
blacks and whites.
It is not long since we heard of a public mar
riage of a black man with a white woman in
Boston; and numerous other instances could he
referred to.
It will he seen by the above extracts that the
work of preparing the public mind for amalga
mation is commenced by asserting that "a negro
is better than a Dutchman." And another 'RM
says "he would rather let his daughter marry a
negro than a Dutchman.' • Yet these same Re
publicans are boasting that they are to have the
help of the German voters this fall'

. .
It is hot a few days since the Republican
presses of this country were boasting that the
English newspapers favored the election of Fre
mont. The above is an evidence of it. The
boast is true. Those English newspapers'that
have ever been hostile to American interests ore
undoubtedly unfriendly to the American Democ
racy, and would rejoice at the election of Fre
mont: not that they have any respect for the
man; hut because they feel morally certain that
111: election would result in a dissolution of the
Union But even ,1 the Union .hould urvi e,
they look to Fremont's entire lack of experience
or political knowledge, and his equal lack of hon
esty, as furnishing a chance for British diploma-
cy to gain many advantages over this country.)
With: Mr. Buchanan President, they despair of
any such thing, and hence the Times says Lib
election " must be anticipated if possible."
The London Times then is a Fremont organ.
Who doubts now that British influence iR at Rat It
for the abolitionists '.' It is charged directly that
large bunts of money are received from the same
source. Mr. Buchanan's election "must he pre
vented if po.sihle," says the Times Washing•
ton said in his Farewell Address : ".4yornst the

We have hut two or three remarks to make as
to that vote. In the first place, the great
of the democracy furnish but a small portion of
the traveling clam generally. Again out of
fifty-eight voters, priticiptlly f/huom,, Mr. Fill

are toll by the opposition newspapers that Fill

Buchanan got the highest vote even muting the

but here is one instance worth noting.
HEIIK ISOZIE OF TRENT —The falsehoods of the

Now there are soma thirty papers supporting

of the Alleghenies. In the whole State about a
hundred. Fremont has fitty•stiven, and Fillmore
thirty four. Such are the gross faliricatioti of
the New York Herald.
Gsoto;v. Lkw.—The Know Nothings and the
New York lirrald tried hard to make a great
man out of George Law. But George has spoil
ed their work. Ile has gone to writing letter,
and the letters are school boy affairs. Thus in a
letter just published in the Herald, Mr. Law
uses the expression 350,000 slave owners," just
thirty-eight times. It is all against Millard Fill

But a " great man" would certainly use differ.

Tendencies of Political Abolitionism
alias Abolition Know Nothing Repub
licanism.
j tr , ,m rpreeh o f 11. W. Thompson, (Whig) of
Indiana..!
But. the Abolitionists are opposed to this
colonization scheme, because it creates no ex•
citement, and offers no opportunities for office.
They want to keep you all the time at fever heat.
They must have the political cauldron always
toiling and bubbling over—hoping 4 loubtlevQ,
that while the more substantial and weighty por
tions of society will not appear, the light and
trashy part will flat upon the eurface. There
fore, they agitate the country with the discussion
of the evils of slavery, their various propositions
to check its progress, and finally to abolish it in
the States. I desire you to observe this, for I
mean what I say, and repeat, that they intend to
abolish slavery to the Stater! Ido not say that
is the object of all who are acting with this party
or that you who are willing to unite with this
party desire or now intend to go that far. But
five years ago, you would no more have thought
of going as far as you now do, than you would
have advocated a monarchy. At that time you
would have felt offended with any man who
should have told you that you would ever advo
cate doctrines which you this day profess.—
Therefore, you have no security against to-mor
row. You do not know what doctrine you may
then have to swallow—for they are gradually
getting you •• ripe" for any that may be neces
sary. If you go into their party, it will be hard
to get out, and yon must take all its platforms,
however they may choose to put them up, what
ever political carpenter they may select to build
them. You know how difficult it is to get away
from a party. To bind you fast, to hold you so
tight that there is no possibility of escape, they
already tell you that there are but two parties in
the country—their's and the old lire Democrats,
and you must take one or the other. They know
your long and bard fought battles with the Demo
crats—they know the great gulf that separated
you, as Whigs, from them, and they take advant
age .if all this to decoy you into their meshes.
And when they have got you fairly in, when the
net is fully over you and the strings are drawn
I tightly by the hands of a master manager--why,
1 you'll be but playthings in their hands. As the
angler, when the fish has seized upon his bait,
permits it to play about at the end of his line,
so they will let you go or draw you in as their
interest may require."

IiENRy I I ASSINGF:II,
For the PittAtlrgh Nlorning Pont.
ii.II.I.II,AYSIIIIIO, August, 1856
Edifo,:—We happened to be sojourn
ing lately within the town of llolliday , burg, in
Blair county, Pa., and being of a nature that
delights to share its pleasureq, we f ee l inclined
to help you to IL short description of what fortune
had laid up for us in this town of the Juniata.
I comfort , he can with the Itepitalitie, of
the " Blair County Exchange Hotel," the esti
mable proprietor of which is Mr. .1 Wingate,
a...misted by his clerk, the indefatigable and ever
agreeable Henry K. Eaton, who made our otny
at the hotel one of uninterrupted comfort and
enjoyment.
Hollidaysburg was once better known to trav
elers than now. It is the point at which the
Pennsylvania canal terminates and the Allegheny
Portage Railroad begins, on the eastern side of
Allegheny mountains. Before the Central Penn
sylvania Railroad was made it was the point at
which all passengers left the packet boats and
took the cars across the mountains, by means ~f
ten inclined planes.
It is surrounded by beautiful and picturesque
scenery, consisting of the landscape, mountain.
hill, rocks streamlet and spring. The " chimney
rocks " on an eminence, like a rampart, over
looking the bed of the Juniata, and commanding
a perfect view of the town, have always been held
as great natural curiosities by all who can appre
' ciate the curious and wonderful architecture of
the world we inhabit. Below the town are the
extraordinary and beautiful springs known by
the name of " Spang's Springs. These running
fountains, though not sufficiently known as yet
to be greatly celebrated, are pleasant as the
haunts of the gods, and iu future years will
become objects of great attraction, as they are
now, intrinsically, of great value. The society
of the town is excellent, abounding in the bright
glad eyes and swelling hearts of females whose
chief pleasure is to oblige, whose constant sue•
cess is to gratify and rejoice the lucky wights
whom fortune favors with their association.
Truly yours, R.
