Councils were held last night.

President, was called to Chair. The following mem

eon, Hutchinson, Irwin. Kammerer, Kim, Kelly,
Late, Layton, Little, Miller, M'Adams, M'Clintock,

Afte sOme preliminary business the 'lmport of John
Taggart, Clerk of the Market, was read and referred
to the Markat Committee. It is as follows:

The Committee on Oity Printing made their report
together with the following resolution :
Itesaimil, That the Mayor be and he is hereby au
thorized to draw his warrants in favor of D. N. White,
of the Gazette, for $lO6 25 in full of his bill for print
ing to July let, 1856 ; in favor of Foster & Fleeson,
of the Dirpotels, for $139 75 id full of their bill for
advertising to July let, 1856 ; and in favor of Whit
ney & Myers for their bill of job printing to June Ist,
4856, for $169 25, and charge the same to appropri
ation No. 3.
The ordinance regulating the running of trains
through streets, and making it a penalty of from $5
to $l5 to infringe Its provisions, was then taken up.
It was moved to refer it to a committee, for the pur
pose of examining all resolutions and ordinances on
the-subject heretofore, and report at next regular
meeting. The motion prevailed by a vote of 13 to 3.
4-Vtmlation from Select:Councils, relative to elec
tion of Director in Pittaburgh, Fort Wayne and Chi
cago Railroad, to he held next Wednesday, was m

It was subsequently ascertained that they had work
ed for Messrs. Gipperich and Whacker, who keep a
shoe store in Allegheny, and who have lately missed
a number of pairs of shoes. They will have a farther
hearing to-morrow.
Gen. Wm. Robimpon, late President of the Ohio
and PennsylvaniA Railroad, is out in a reply to the
pamphlet of Messrs. Dwight Jarvis, Wm. Bagley
and T. W. Bartley. It is a spicy production, and es
will take occasion to lay it before our readers in
tnorrow's issue.
