SDAV MORNING
To M. H—y.
'Two Jor a WARM:, brief and fi.et
My eyus twee charred by sight of thee
But uh! the parOng time was meet—
in ago of biles and love tome.
1 heard thee speak; thy low, sated voice
Excited many nbliaafni thought;
But though another la #y chcdee,
I have not one unkindly thought.
I lIPTPr Heil thine aye, or bldo,
Or view that dear and manly farm,
But think the angele must ,he few
By whom such matchlealooka are worn
Thou art my deity- , -my abrtne—
The atar .1 love, that beams afar,
Shedding a radiancy, alt dicina--
A guiding and a cheering star.
Oh, do not ask me to forget
Or doubt; but I must fondly cherish
Those happy times In which. we 1404
Nor cease to think but when We Perish.
And when thou'rt wadded limn : Other,
note o'er my wretched heart is rtTeri,
Yet still my feelings I will smother,
And pray to meet thee but in Ilearen.

Locomotive and Steam Elllolle, Works to
be Erected at ROcinistei.
But a few months ago it was donkedhysonta,
whether the Car Building at Rochester would ever,
be carried into. practical effect; bat thosOrho
saw a beautiful train of seventeen new ears ienvirqg , , •
that establishment for Chicago last week, hFe . .
ceased to doubt on that score. Htindreds of
others who have, within the last "few mouths; . .
witnessed the buildings, the machinery, and the
work in progress, by Messrs. Kirk & Rhodes, at '
Rochester, have expressed their confidence and
their admiration, and acknowledged the com
pleteness of the whole concern—many pro•
not acing it the moat perfect in all its parts,. of
any in the United States. There are many others
who do not hesitate to express the opinion thtit,
for eligibility of location, having reference to the
geography of our country, the Rivers, the Rail
roads
and the Lakes, the cheapness, and abun• - .
dant supply of materials, and the undoubted
future demand for work at this point, ,Rochester . •
is without a rival. Look at the net work of Rail
roads, through Ohio; Indiena; Illinois; 'lowa.
&c., and their natural convergence; or colleen-
trauma at this extreme north easterly bend of the )
Ohio River, and you will be convinced Thai no' '
place is better located than Rochester for the '
manufacture of oars; locomotives and atenin en
gines—the " eircumbendituts" to Hie conntrary ' '
notwithstanding. , ,
Knowing this to he thetas°, men- of intelli
gence and wealth hare been found in several
eastern cities 'and towns willing teinnitet.heir '
' skill, their intelligence, their money and their G
finence to build np and sustain even it Mammoth
Locomotive and Steam Engine Establishment, at
RoChester, to supply western orders. withentilie•
expense and delay of bringing locomotives from
the east. The work is now about to be about to
be commenced, under much • higher auspices
than have attended the commencement of most
of the establishments of similar character in the
United States. To say nothing of those in .New
York and New England—nothing of Harkness,
Greenwood, &c., in Cincinnati, and of others in
Cleveland, Chicago, kc„ we will speak of Norris'
in Philadelphia, which may have cost a million,
which now covers about one hundred town lots
in the city of Philadelphia, and gives 'employ
nont t o many hundreds of hands. We remember
full well when Norris rented an old stable that had
formerly belonged to Col. Hamilton, of Bush.ffill,
and commenced operations in it with six men, at
six dollars a week each, renting his power from
the adjoininrwireel-wright shop .of , Rush & Mti- ,
ienburg, and brought that power by a conned:tug
shaft through a hole in the wall to move-his ma- '
chinery. But see what has been - done in the
brief space of 30 years, under the name of
Nonuts—meaning father, brother and sons. -
This name is almost as familiar in any country
of Europe as in our own Pennsylvania ; and who
knows, but the Rochester Locomotive and Steam
Engine Works, here foreshadowed, may be as
well known throughout the United States twenty
or thiity years hence, as are now, the far-famed
works of Norris & Son, in Philadelphia.
Towards the Rochester works $lOO,OOO have
been already subscribed—the site is determined
on, a deed obtained for 4 acres of ground, with
a rfusal of 5 acres more adjoining, if required.
The erection of buildin g s will be commenced on
or before the first, of August, proximo. A large,
amount of the most approved and ready made
machinery is already proyided, and orders are
received for a number of steam engines, It is
expected that work shops will be started upon
the premises, during the approaching autumn,
and that many men will bo employed through the
When the works are fairly under way, and the
public hnve learned that this is no mistake—new
books of subscription will be opened, to increase
he capital stook from $lOO,OOO, to $250,000, or
if 1-L(ll:tired to $600,000.
For the present, however, sufficient has been
subscribed to perfect an organization 'of 'the
company, end to proceed with the enterprise.
Practical looomotive and steam engine build
ers, and many other ingenious workers in iron,
steel, copper, brass, &c., wishing to become in
terested or identified with a new and promising
establishment, and toaeoure for themselves pleas
ant homes, constant employment, and good pay—
and to groW up, as the Norris"have done, with
the works, with the , • town, and With the country,
will soon learn, through an advertisement or
card, the terms and conditions on which they may
become thus interested. But suffidient•has been
said to turn attention in this• direction, and •Itsad
to investigation, which is all tbtit i we now' aerie '
—we have not yet- asked the'first dolfat'fiorn
Rochester;' from Beaver county, or front Pitts
burgh—though we doubt not, each tind'aß ill
cheerfully respond to future calls, if Circuit:Main- .
ces require.
The iron rails are now laid upon the new track'
from Rochester, across ther mouth of Beaver,
tii
wards Wellsville, Steubenville, Wheeling and all
the railroads, cities and towns of the west, and
the cork will be running' by the first of Septem
