THE CAMPAIGN POST
There is already a pretty large demand for the
campaign Post, and we hope our friends will
push it along fast. It is furnished to clubs of
ten or more for fifty cents each until the cam
paign is over, and the result made known The
price is but a trifle, and it contains more read
ing matter than any other weekly or camps; gu
paper in Western Pennsylvania
It is likely to he an exciting contest and
in fact one of the most important Presidential
contests through which the country has ever
paseed. We want to have the people posted up
as to the issue 9 involved. whatever way they may
intend t‘: Tate Hence it is that we offer our
campaign paper o eliecip It will at the Bank
time 1 - e much larger than 3 , ..y (Aber cue
To Clubs of ten
To Clubs of twenty-two
To Clubs of thirty-five
Will our friends take an interest in this matter
find shove it along
e have '!ready got several large clubs, an I
eipecL many more.
(lILLMORE & MONTGOMERY
NO ISSUE-BUT AN AIM
The Black Republican abolitionists pretend
to make Kansas the issue in this campaign,
and Fremont and his friends prate of that tent
tory as though somewhat of the fate of Kansas
depended on the election of Fremont. Now,
the New York Herald is one of the warmest sup
porters of Fremont, and is probably doing more
to secure his defeat than any other paper in tLe
country. :See how it cuts up at one blow tb
only issue the sectionalists present. Here is i
language.
" But long before Colonel Fremont enters the
White House—if indeed he is destined ever to
occupy that mansion—the question of Kansas
will be dead and gone, settled, ended, laid on the
obeli', as much so at the compromise of IMO, or
the Nebraska law."
The Kansas issue, then, is no issue at all
What then are they fighting for tult%daat pray
tical measures do they propose". Nothing.
And so the Herald says of the two convention ,
that nominated Fremont. It says: "They di I
not demand that slavery should he abolished in
the District of Columbia. They did nut insist
an the repeal of the Fugitive Slave law. They
did not even call for the restoration of the Mis
souri comprothise. These questions, winch
have so largely occupied the attention of anti
slavery minds, atd have constituted the staple of
anti-slavery speeches and writings throughout
the North during the past two or three years,
were entirely lost sight of, or, rather, deliberately
set aside, by both of the conventions which
nominated Fremont, and also, by tacit consent,
by hie leading extra-copventional supporters
throughout the country."
Here, then, is a party making a great ado about
nothing ; promising not one measure of any
kind ; presenting not one issue that will not be
" dead and gone," as the Herald says, long be
fore the fourth of March next. And yet to such
a mongrel party, without aim or purpose appa
rently, it is supposed that the people will rally '
But it has an aim—at least its leaders have—
and that aim is a dissolution of the Union.
While the Union lasts the abolition agitators can
never hold the high places of the government.
In disunion rests the only hope of their diseased
ambition. Hence it is that Horrors Greeley
says, "the Union is not worth prieerving ;" and
Banks says, " let the Union slider" and a Black
Republican clergyman of Poughkeepsie, says,
"I pray daily that that this accursed Union may
be dissolved, even if blood has to be shed ;" and
a spettker in the Philadelphia Convention (Judge
Spalding) said, " I am for dissolution and care
not how soon it comes." And in the same spirit
and with the same infamous purpose in view the
Black Republicans are raising disunion banners.
See the following :
The Portland (Me.) Argus says " The
Black Republicans of Norway, in this idtate,
have boldly thrown to the breeze the banner of
disunion. They have raised a flag bearing upon
its front but SLICTEBN STATES, to designate te
sixteen free States, thus striking out from t he
glorious galaxy of the confederacy the fifteen
southern States."
Why is it, then, that the Black Republicans
are making each desperate efforts without a prac
tical issue involved o It is to form a great north
ern party of sufficient strength to accomp
evil and infamous design of the Seward, Gree
ley, Giddings, Beecher, Parker and Garrison
conspirators.
THZ PATENT Bu.L.—Senator James' patent
bill haabeen so warmly opposed in the scientific
and. industrial publications, that the Committee
on Patents is preparing a new bill, under the ad
vice and counsel of a Massachusetts lawyer. It
will soon be reported.lt also; intends reporting
a reciprocity patent bill, which will apply to
foreign patents .

neeuvering and summersaults for the last two
years you have in the end simply brought yourself
into the unenviable position of a second fiddle to
your once hated, and always dreaded rival, the
Pittsburgh Gazelle.' Such is the manifest re
sult of your sagacity ; and you can afford to call
names, can you" And had you not sense enough
to know that your furious rage at the intimation
of venality afforded strong indications of its
truth The guilty always shoo more indigna
tion than the innocent when charged with crime
And finally, do you think that you have frightet.-

the same if you do not. Now, sir, put all ti i.
in your pipe and smoke it : and if by this fa:I:-
log you are not ashamed of your silly expl,si
of Saturday, you can just repeat it with any
variations you can think of to-morrow morning.
Privately, though, how much did you g•',

it Is said you gut from a certain •• League " 134:

till justice is dune between us. Nun began the
game of charging venality now the truth tnu-t
come out till the innocent are relieved from the
charge, and the guilty are exposed as they

the whole editorial profession down to his own
infamous level, a history of his past life
show whether the vile attempt can meet with .it.y
success. Enough for to-day.
THE PEACE DILI
N bill ha 4 been introduced in t onirres, f , r
a long time that has excited such a storm of nip ,
from the Now York Tribune, as the bill of pen , e
introduced by Toombs, in the Senate, to eet,ie
all controversy in relation to Kansas. The abo
litionists see iu it the death of their hopes.
will make peace in Kansas. It ail' poi sit en i
to agitation. It annuls those obnoziou• :ay.
that the free Suitt men in Kan•as justly con.

time fur all who have left Kansas to return,
secure a vote. It provides a sure preventive t
fraudulent voting, and prevents all chance
interference on the part of the Mi,e,ourialio.
But there is on. thing that it does that the
Black Republicans hate it for. It puts an
to further agitation Without agitation th-,‘

to the bill. The civil war must be continued ut
Kansas. The telegraph must cmtinue to pour
forth its startling falsehoods. The •• border rut'.

Republican presses. All these things are neces
sary, or the woolly horse ticket bay nothing to
run upon. Hence the opposition: and lir nee the
alarm lest there should be found honest n,en
enough to pass the bill. It has passed the Sen
ate by a vote of almost four to one. If it pa---
es the House, it will be signed by the President,
and Horrors Greeley's occupation is gone He
will weave no more heart-rending tales to tell of
murders and sacking in Kansas. There will be
no more use in the cry that Kansas is to I.e ionic

provides that the people of that territory may,
by a fair vote, decide that , ti
and all agree that the free Btate taco In thsi

Those are the States that vote for State and
local officers prior to the Presidential election.
In the seven Southern States first named, Fill
more is supposed to have a good deal of strength.
But the votes at the local elections may 119 L
cate his strength. The opposition to the Democ
racy may contend in earnest about local elec
tions, but on the Presidential question there
will, probably, be very little controversy in those
seven States.

We are glad to see by the last number of the
Newark (Licking County) Time.l, that M. I'.
Brister, the well known Old-Line Whig editor in
that county, who last fall worked gallantly for
Trimble and the rest of the Black Republican

of Buchanan and Breckinridge, placing their
names at the mast head of his journal. Mr.
Brister is a strong and forcible writer, a gallant
national man, and we not only welcome him
cordially into the Democratic ranks, but recom
mend his paper to the liberal patronage of the
Dembcrats of Licking and the adjoining counties.

The Table• Turned—Singular Develop-
s o me very curious facts relative to the charac

developed during the trial of a case before the
Criminal Court on Tuesday evening. Mr. Elias
Hall, an insurance agent over Ilegan S Escott . ,
had procured an indictment for felony against a
well known gentleman doing business on Third

Munn SinNs.—The straight whigs" of Ken

rich, late United States Consul at Paris, and well
known to youths as " Peter Parley," thus writes
to a friend about Col. Fremont :
"I recollect to-have heard it said of him that
his habit of self.reliance and self-counselling,
evidentqfrom his manner and conduct, reminded
one strongly of similar qualities in Louis Napo

We don't think the people of these United
States desire a President. with quite as much
"self-reliance and self-eounselling," especially,
when to these astounding qualities are united
ignorance and inexperience of political affairs,
to a remarkable degree. Neither do they require
a President who shall " remind one strongly "
of Louis Napoleon, or any other despot. " Pe

THE Writ. WOMAN.—The so called wild wo•
woman has been quite "a card" in Cincinnati
since n cotemporary "wrote her up" with a col
umn and a quarter notice; about pathless prai

Some who attended the exhibition thought her a
"genuine article:" others believed her to be as
tame as ill-tempered women usually are, and in
collusion with her showman ; more believed her
to be a lunatic, and were shocked at a female,
in her unhappy condition, being made a show
of. One of these yesterday swore, before Judge
Burgoyne, that he believed her to he a woman of
unsound mind, and Deputy Sheriffs Longshoie
and Shattuck, lost evening, arrested her.
She was taken without difficulty, manifesting
no ferocity, and conducting herself in the cur
riage, on the way to jail, where she was placed
in custody for the night, with perfect propriety.
Doctors will be summoned, and the question cf
