Patent Finishing Plane.
This invention is intended for use where it Is desired to im
part a fine, smooth, and glossy seldom to the wood: but it is
applicable, with advantage, to all hind of corpeuter's
The novelty consists In placing the rutting chisel. or bit, In
front of the wedge, Instead of behind... in common planes;
elm in applying a metallic mouth-piece to the taco of the
plum., in trout of the chisel, which month piece serves as the
list fur the chisel, and confines the throat of the plane.
But the mouth piece .. • w the edge of the bit in to
prevent the plane from ripping or splintering the wood in

plied to the planing of veneers—with entire success---a
thing which cannot safely be done by the common photo.
The peculiar arrangement of the mouth piece, bit, and
wedge, affords a complete and firm hearing fur the bit
throughout its whole length, and dispenses under all rin
cum stances, with the use of a cap or double ' bit.
This Is a eery simple and effective Improvement, destined,
we hove no doubt, to find its way into every carpenter's shop
in the land. Nu tool chest is complete without it. Thy in
ventor is Wet. C. Hopper. of Fittchurilli, Pa., and hir pal vo t
