Patent Fint•bing P
This invention is intended for use where it is desired to itre
part a tine, smooth. and glassy sin face to the wood; bul it is
applicable, with advantage, to all kind of carpenter's planes.
The novelty consists to placing the cutting chisel. or lit, in
fi out of thewedge, instead of hind, sa In commute planes;
plan in applying a metallic mo be uth-piece to the face of the
plane, la front of the ;beset, which mouth piece serves en the
met for the chisel, and confiner , the throat of the plane.
But the mouth piece is so close he the edge of the bit as to
prevent the plane from ripping or splintering the wood in
the least degree Indeed, we have seen the Implement ap
plied te the planing of wood against the grain, and trans
crossly to the grain, leaving the wood perfectly smooth. So
perfects the operation of this instrument, that it may be
plied to the planing of veneers-141th entire 11111.1,401--14
thing which cannot safely he done by the common plane.
The peculiar arrangement of the mouth piece, bit, and
wedge, allords a complete and firm bearing for the bit
throughout Its whole length, and dispenses, under all cir
cumstances, with the use of a cap or double bit
This Ls a very simple and effective imigovement, destined,
see have no doubt, to find its way into e‘cry carpenter's 'h.
in the land. No tool cheat is complete without it The in.
cantor is Wm. 0. Hopper, of Plttaburtili. Pa...and his patent
