JOHN EL COSGRAVE,
HENRY LAMBERT,
We have no change in the money market. The
l3enks are discounting as much good paper as they
can, and we have heard no complaint of any tight
ness in the market. There is but. little good paper
offered outside for discount..
The New York Times, of Wednesday last, says :
There was a large business done in exchange for the
steamer Africa, and nearly all the first class transient
bills were taken up at 1093 per cent. The regular
Bankers drew, at this rate, and in some cases obtain
ed 109 i per cent. The market closed firmer than
for the last packet, although the advance was nut
fully established. On Paris a good degree of activ
ity at 5.161 ; mostly for ~regular bankers' names.
The reduced interest on money thiti week, and the
great ease in supply will increase the gold shipment
by this opportunity, to about one million of dollar?.
The engagements this afternoon were at least $850,-
000. The business at the sub-treasury was light.
Receipts $107,103; payments $82,131: regular bal
ance this afternoon, $7,231,103. Of the Texas in
demnity recently paid, about half a milieu goes to
London and Amsterdam, and this has contributed
somewhat to the increased activity in Exchange.
The large Banks are selling first-class paper at 7 per
cent, running through July, August and September,
and one or two parcels of October paper were taken
to day at the same rates. Demand loans are easy
at 0 per cent, on first class collateral, or to the Bro
ksrs of established credit.
The Stock market does not respond to this easy
state of things in the condition or money and trade;
though there is no anxiety manifested to press sales
of dividend-paying shares or first•claea Bonds.
There was some business at the early meeting of the
Brokers, and liberal transactions made both for cash
and on contract in New York Central, Beading and
Erie ; but in the afternoon the slight advance was
lost, and the market closed dull.
The weekly l.enk statement show. the large gain
of .$2,144,6'90 in the apeeie average, and an increase
$1,027.,6411 in the average of loans and discounts,
while the average inereaae of deposits is ever $2,-
600,000.

abuudantly supplied Is ith money, and all undoubted
paper could be readily negotiated. The demand,
however, was light. In Exchange we have no
change to notice, pave increat ed firmness and an 'le-

which will eye us Unrestricted intercourse with our neigh

From every quarter we hear that the crops, with the ex

well and presents every Indication of an abundant harvest.
The season has, however, been too cold and damp for the
