31 it.. 1,11. --Manager F..ster could
hardly select fruits the numberless stars that shine in
the/ theatrical firmament, ono to which the public is
more strongly inclined to gravitate than this spright
ly little actress. She draws good houses when others
play to a beggarly array of empty boxes—and at
this time Is as popular as the night she first delighted
a Pittsburgh audience. It is thus, also, in other:cities.
Indeed, wherever Miss Maggie appears she has a
happy faculty of making hosts of friends—friends
who do not look upon her with a Cold criticism, but
who appreciate her shortcomings as well as her many
excellencies, and yet find enough in her personations
to dall forth applause of no stinted kind. What
should ever commend her to a generous people is the
fact that her efforts are not not merely for her own
support, but also for her mother, and since her first
essay she has allowed no such word as " fail " be
known in her vocabulary. To-night she appears in
two 'capital comidiettsis. Lot there be a full house.
A Troublesome Darkie.— Lewis Miller, a not very
respectable "callod pusson," as will be seen, was ar
fisted on Monday and committed to jail for swind
ling a white man, named Samuel Richey, who resides
in Allegheny city, out of his board bilL It appears
Miller obtained from the complainant boarding for
himself and wife for several months, under the pre
tence that he had a large amount of money due him
at Zanesville, Ohio, from whence be had moved but
a short time before. When Richey found out the
truth of the matter, ho had a writ issued for his ar
rest, but the darkie treated with contempt the lass
lehce of "the white trash," and swore he would cut
out the heart of any man who attempted to arrest
him. lu'Alderman Doaoldson's office his abuse and
violenoii was so great that the nippers had to be
tried on. Committed to answer in default of $2OO
hail.

Ann Prenter, widow of Wm. Prenter vs. Pennsyl

pear to be these: Mrs. Ann Prenter, widow of Wil
liam Prenter, deceased, brings action against the
Pennsylvania Railroad company to recover damages
for his death on the road in March, 135. lie was
employed on the road as a brakesman on a freight
train, and when going eastward, stopped at Denny's
station, on a sideing, to let the passenger train, com
ing west, pass by. While at this point he attempted
to walk over an uncovered culvert, and. in doing so,
fell a distance of ten or twelve feet and was injured
to such an extent, that he died a short time after
wards in the city of Pittsburgh. The culvert was
eight feet in width, and is said to have been construc
ted in the -ordinary way, and Mr. Prettier well ac
quainted with it., having been an employee of the
Company some three months previously. It is al
leged by the plaintiff that it was left in such an in
secure condition that it was extremely hazardous to
rwis over it: and the Company is now liable for the
damage which Mrs. Prenter sustained by the death
of her husband. On trial.
