P. .; a Catholic i.krcyman, residing in Cincinnati, appeared bef.,re Alderman M'Kenna, yesterday, and made inforamtion that he had lost a trunk cent. ining $7OO in mone ) , and property to the amount of $BOO, under the fol levrin47 nirrnm•=tances : On the QtLi of. May last Mr. O'Neill went nii , ard the steamer Cincinnati at Mari etta, end engaged a passage on her to Cincinnati. There was not room in the office for his baggage, and under instructions of one of the officers of the boat, it was placed in room No. 6, and given in charge of dgnilla Jaaksoit, one of the porters engaged on the boat. The boat reached Cincinnati in the .evening, and; Mi. O'Neill being In a hurry, be left his bag gage ph board, promising to call for it in the morn ing. Being delayed, from some cause, up town, the gentleman did not reach the wharf until after the steamer had left for Pittsburgh, but, believing that his baggage would be found all right when she re turned, be did not then trouble himself further about the matter. The boat made her grip to this city as usual, and on her return Mr. O'Neill went aboard and enquired for his luggage; but it was nowhere to be found, and neither the officers of the steamer nor the porter to whose charge it was entreated, knew aught about it. The boot again started for this city, and Mr. O'Neill, bellying that Jackson had made away with his property, he followed him hither, and had him arrested on a warrant issued this morning by Alderman M'Kenua, and entrusted to' office- Dougherty and Greeuan for execution. The pris , proclaims his innocence in strong lento, and aller,:-s that the luggage was removed from room No. 8 t. , No. 24 while the boat was near Portsmouth, oilier downward trip, and that he has not seen it since. His trunks were searched by Dougherty dur ing the afternoon, but nothing calculated to connect hits with the theft was discovered. The supposition is that he sent the trunk &there, some time during thetrip, and that it is new lying at some point down the river. He Was fully committed for trial.—e.hron icie. Ice Cream renus Dirt.—Quite an excitement ROA created Tuesday afternoon on St. Clair street, near Plum, by a collision between an empty earah cart, driven by a large sized Irish youth, and an ice cream wagon. The latter was receiving its f reight of frozen sweetness from a neighboring saloon, when he, of the cart, drove carelessly against the wagon, break ing a shaft and drawing forth some piercing little screams from a half dozen young ladies who had taken passage on board fur the pic.nio at Lawrence ville. Theindignant cream man pitched into the Irish boy and would have pummeled him most un lawfully had not a couple of Ecncrulders rushed to his rescue. For a while the war of words ran high, and a large number of urchins, who seemed to think there was a good chance of the ice cream being spilled, gathered round with the benevolent object of gather ing It up in'the event of niche castastrophe. Fortu nately the interference of some lir'anderi , quieted the discordant elements without the intervention of the strong arm of the law. There is a great deal of carelessness among those driving drays, carts, ,tc., on the streets. If a few arrests were made by tho police it would have a salutary effect. The Peril. of "a Drank."—A few nights since en individual, residing in Chartler' township, was in this city on business, and before returning managed to get his hat filled with what the Children of Israel were compelled to manufacture without the aid of straw. Returning on his winding way he managed to get on tolerable well as far s 4 Saw Mill Run when the lead becoming too intolerable to be born ho "wrapped the drapery of his couch around him and lay down to pleasant dreams!" An old gentleman living in the vicinity who is something of a wag its well as a stiff cold water man proceeded to play 00 a practical joke upon the victim to John Barleycorn. He brought a quantity of boards from a neighboring sawmill and so securely cooped up the dreamer that when he awoke the next morning all efforts to get out were unavailing until the door of his pris• n house was unlocked by his jailor.
