A PERFECT DI ARPLOT
The New 1 ork 75nies has been pretty much of
a tnarplot in the abolition camp. It insists on
being allowed the privilege of telling the truth
once in a while. .Thus when it was proposed to
have Col. Lane come pretty near challenging
.ludge Douglas, and then say that Douglas backed
out, the Ti n.. 1 spoke right out and said that Mr.
Douglas had the bestof the controversy, and that
Col. Lane bad done himself no credit. That
spoiled the whole plot, and it is given up as a
failure. Seward introduced a hill providing that
Kansas should I.e immediately admitted as a
State with the Topeka bogus constitution, and
announced that as the issue between the De
mocracy mid the opposition. The Times comes
right out and says it is impossible to pass such a
bill, and it is useless to try it. Mr. Douglas
introduced a hill proving for a convention in
Kansas to frame a constitution and then bring
it in as a State when it had the requisite popu
lation to entitle it to one member of the House
of Representatives. This was assailed by the
abolitionists as all wrong and unjust. But the
7nnn• comes right out in the following candid
manner in relation to it. It will be seen that
that paper admits that the Topeka Constitution
was gotten up irregularly, and could nut he 11,7-
ce plol by Congress. but we will give its own
word , :
MAN 17
The proposal of Senator Seward to admit Kansas
into the rnion immediately, with the State Constitu.
lion formed at Topeka. would at once restore peace
and order to the territory. But it is evident that it
c a nn o t, and will not be adopted: and we presume it
w. not introduced with any expectation that it
a he suceessful. 'I . he circumstances under which
Constituthal war formed —l.y a Convention called,
led In' any authority the Government of the ter
ritdry. but in didiallee of it— and composed of the
delegates elected by the party, instead of by the
whole holy of the issople—would create, in any case,
a very formidable barrier to its acceptance by Con
gress. But whatever nay be the merits of the ap
plication for immediate admission, no one supposes
for a moment that it ran he successful. It might
possibly pass in the llouse of Representatives—hut
both the Senate and the Executive are immovably
host hie P. it. As a measure of practical refire-s,
therefore. from which the people of Kansas can ex
' peel relief from their diflieultiein this proposal for .15
immediate admission as a State is out of the quid-
Wtl must look elsewhere 4- a solution.

DF.AI3. .Sts; I have purposely delayed reply
ing to the recent communication in your colunms
over Dr. S. S. Fitch's signature, as I was willing
that he should pr , omre its inse , t 7 on in as many
papers as Le chose, that all tnipht be able to
compare the fairness of Ow pre.-.lit attack with
the manliness of hie assault upon me through the
Western papers, when I wits in Paris last winter,
where, of course, I could not readily reply. The
nature of my connection with hint, even although
at the time I had not considered toritirm articles
of empartnerAhip as important between relatives
as I now do, can he abundantly proved by other
evi.lct.,,:c than the publibcd card which his -
-er has labored so Musty to neutralize ; and
his assertion that lo ~• •nsider me compe
tent to take charge ,-t to, practice while he
should retire, is hardly consistent with the cir
cumstance that since I left New York he has twice
written me, once himself, and in the second in
stance by another, offering me considerable in
ducements to take charge of the New York prac
tice—a fact which, if necessary, can of course
be tinsmiths] by the publication of his letters.
These propositions I thought best to decline, but
that hardly justifies him in endeavoring to force
my acceptance by attempting to injure my prac
tice ; nor should he justly assail me, even
though my SIIOCPSB may have diminished his
business. Ilis a..sertion that I was, am unac.
quaintcd with the composition of his medicines,
hardly requires on answer.
• It would be literally impossible that I should
have been daily, for years, engaged more or less
in their preparation, purchasing all the drug
employed, with access when necessary to the
written formula-, without being quite as well Re
quninted with them as my uncle himself, even
hail I been only an uneducated assistant ; how
much more then, in the position I actually
pied. And his final assertion, that the object of
his attack is to prevent people from supposing,
that my treatment is the same as his own, that
this, I say, cannot he correct, is clear from 1 , 1, ,
fact, tint iu all my advertisements,. I state ,bs
tinctly that I have• no connection wit h him at the
