EATON, EN., This certifies that we have had In use the patent ()ROMA.. L'apo, sold by Moan F. Eaton, Esq., of Pittsburgh, and Insider them very much superior to any thing of the kind e hove ever used. ALFRED THOMAS, Treasurer Ohio Tool Company. Columbus, obio, November 7, 1855. np2d oin the New York Scientific American.) Patent Finishing Plane. This invention is Intended for use where it is desired to im part ti fine, smooth, and glossy surface to the wood: but it is applicable, with advantage. to all kind of carpenter's planes. The novelty consists iu placing the cutting chisel. or bit, in front of the wedge, instead of behind, as In common planes; also In applying a metallic mouth-piece to the face of the plane, is front of the chisel, which mouth piece serves as the rest for the chisel, and confines the throat of the plane. But the mouth piece is so close the edge of the bit aft to prevent the plane from ripping or splintering the wood iu the least degree. Indeed, we have seen the implement ap plied to the planing of wood against the grain, and trend Tersely to the grain, leaving the wood perfectly smooth. So perfect is the operation of this instrument, that it may be ap plied to the planing of veneer--with entire success—a thing which cannot safely be done by the common plane. The peculiar arrangement of the mouth piece, bit, and wedge, affords a complete and firm bearing for the bit thnaighout Its whole length, and dispenses. under all cir- inisLauces, with Use use of a cap or double tat. This is a very simple and effective impruvorneut, deotis c we have uo doubt. to li ud its witylnto every carpenter's hto p to the hind. No tool chest is complete without it. The tu• ventor is Wni. C.
