His. Honor put claalLy and plainly before the jark.• In his remarks he ,olut:nistered a scathing coming:a upon the man Couper,:who, by his testimony, sou,ghk to sacrifice his tool to his own nefarious crimes. The jury,:however, utterly disregarded the sworn state ments of a umn—who, when admitted to the Bar, had sworn to support the constitution of the United States and of this Commonwealth, but who stands before the country convicted, by his mi'n oath, of grossly violating the spirit of both. The members of the Bar ought to vote this brother a bogus medal, on g..onilitioit that he hang out his shingle on the other side of Jordan. Chesrowm was acquitted after a de liberation of about.fire minutes by the Jury. In the MSC of the United States vs. Catharine Bilis, indicted for counterfeiting, the fair prisoner was ac quitted by the gallant jury as she ought to have been. In the afternoon the court met for the purpose of hearioPtlic argument fur a new trial in the cases of the fruited Stales vs. James Mason and James Dan ford ; but the counsel not being prepared to argue the case, the court adjourned. The Committee of Conference on the Deficiency 'bill made a report, which was adopted. • Mr. Cass Concluded his remarks commenced yes terday. The troubles in Kansas had not in the least weakened his faith in the great doctrine of the right of man to govern himself. Ho condemned the ever lasting Slavery question, which was continually re newed, with increased virulence, on the eve of every Presidential election. The South does not meddle with the society system of the North, and if the North would follow its example we should be the happiest and most contented, as we are to-day the freest na tion on the face of the Globe. .Mr. Clayton, speaking on the question of the Sound Dues, 'contended that this country ought not any longer to submit to its exaction. That treaty with Denmark has been abrogated, and nothing that could now be said or done would restore it. Tho notice of the President was merely one that for sixty days - after the lapse of the year, this country would take no steps on the subject, but it did not revive the treaty. The Senate adjetrxru3d. House.—Mr. Jones, of Pennsylvania, replied to the remarks of his colleague, Mr. Fuller. Ile denied, on unqdestionable authority, the allegation that Mr. Buchanan was Chairman of the Committee which passed and reported to a meeting held in Lancaster in 1819, a resolution denunciatory of the Missouri Compromise, and stated that Mr. Buchanan did not see them until they were printed. During Mr. folk's administration, Mr. Buchanan proposed to extend the Missouri line to the Pacific, but in 18511 he declared the Compromise measures superseded by that line which, by its construction, led inevitably to the adoption of the principles embodied in the Kansas- Nebraska Bill. Mr. Jones pointed with pride to the life of Mr. Buchanan, who had received the enco miums of all true national men for the pure morality of his life, and the stern patriotism of his character. The record of his democracy was luminous, and would be carried by any attempt to defend it from attacks from any quarter. Mr. Fuller, of Pennsylvania, gave a democratic journal in the Northern part of that State as authority fur the assertion that Mr. Buchanan reported the Lancaster resolutions, denunciatory of the Missouri Cocuprotnise, in 1852.
