UNITED STATEN CIRO' rt Co uat r- Before Judge Irwin.
United States v?. J,,hn rbegrotott. Indictment,
passing counterfeit coin
The argument in this cue occupied all yester -
I.y. In the forenoon, Messrs. Flenniken and Gibson,
and in the afternoon, Col. Black for the defendant,
after which Mr. Boiluta made the concluding and only
argument for the United States. Judge Stealer was
not in his usual health, and consequently many
strangers were disappointed in not having au
opportunity of hearing that able and venerable gen
tleman.
All the counsel concerned exhibited great zeal and
skill in forensic art. Mr. Gibson is a young gentle
man of brilliant talents, and was listened to with
breathless at Cent ion.
An exception haring been made by Col. Black to
the indictment, because it charged the counterfeit
coin to have been passed "with intent to defraud
persona to the Grand Jurors unknown," the Court
reserved the question, and will charge the jury to
day, at. 9 o'clock A. M., the hour to which they ad
journed.

In regard to the cost of the apparatus, it is unne

The capacity and integrity of these gentlemen
must be impugned, if there was any remissness in

person qualified to judge of the cost of similar work,
the commissioners could readily vindicate themselves
from any charge of extravagance or lack of judg
