THE STATE TREASUEER. - 11. S. MAULIAW Esq.,
of Lancaster, the State Treasurer elect, entered
upon the discharge of the duties of his office on
Monday last—lion. ELI Statlea, of Union county,
retiring. Of Mr. S. it is but just to say that he
was one of the best Treasurers we have had fur
many years. Ile was accomodating, attentive
to his duties, and always actuated by the highest
motives of integrity. If the Treasury of the
Commonwealth lost anything during the past
year, the loss is not chargeahle to intentional
neglect on the part of Mr. SLIFER. The new
Treasurer. Mr. Mauanw. is a gentleman of very
superior abilities. lie is N. lawyer by profession,
and when egaged in the practice, in Pittsburgh,
, was one of the mo , t promising members of that
able bar. Ills social q ualities are of the rarest
kind: which renders it only necessary for him to
be known to be beloved. 'that he will make an
excellent officer, the people of the State will dis
