Nitrite. Attorney Shaler and R. 11, Fount% ap
peared for the prosecution; for the defence, Mr. S.
W. Black, IL P. Flenniken and Gibson, of Washing
ton county. The following is the testimony :
It. F. Cooper sworn.—Live in Washington county;
I had been in Monongahela city on nit November,
1855; stopped at Chesroun's. We conversed in the
front room. I mentioned to him a singular case (am
an itttornef) as to a man selling a horse for bad mo
ney and good-75 good, 600 bad—was displeased,
and wished to put him in a way to get his horse back.
Chesronn asked me if Thad seen any of the money,
and whether there was any of it about Washington.
Told him I thOught there was some there. He re
quested me to bay him a specimen told him I bad
seen some; before I left I told him If I saw Mr.
M'Cready, and could get it, I would bring him a spe
cimen. In two weeks, Tuesday, Nov. 13. told Mr.
M'Cready that I was going to Monongahela city,
and he gave me a $1 gold piece, and a $2,50 gold
piece, and told me to show them to Chesroun, and
tell him the price. I took them down. Chearoun
asked me to give him the specimens, and went into
hie room ; he examined them by ringing them on
the window Mil. I told him M'Cready said paper
could be bought for 30 per rent. and silver for 40 per
cent. Chesroun told me how convenient it would
be for him to pass it, ,tc. He then came with me to
Washington; as we were going into town M'Cready
hailed me, and I introduced Chosroun • we went to
Mansion House; cleverly dark ; M'Cready came in
before I went home; I then left them there and went
home; M'Cready afterwards (0 or 10 o'clock) met
me, and said he would not take Chesroun to Ohio.
M'C. said I knew all about the matter, and his me
rles, would be safe. Chesroun was to give $260
good for $4OO bad; difference in prices, der.., to pay

The defence concluded the cross-examination of Mr.
Cooper at a quarter poet fire, when an adjournment
took place until nine o'clock this morning. This
ease is one of unusual interest. inasmuch as the per
sons figuring have heretofore occupied a respectable
position in society.
ifeworabk.—Yeiderdny and to-day arc the ennui
versaries of the battles of Palo Alto and Itesaea do la
Palma, now memorable events in the history of our
first foreign war. We remember them for glory, but
there are those who remember them for grief. The
stern Spartans wept not when their braves fell with
their " hacks to the field and their feet to the foe,"
but the refined though not less ennobling bravery of
Christian days wipes out the ignominy of tears, and
leaves it still virtuous, to weep, to sigh, and t re•
view the past. Long live the survivors of those
days. Green wave the turf above their dead.
Om; day Longer.—The " Floating Palace " will re
main one day longer for the purpose of affording an
opportunity to those who could not visit it before.
The Museum and Concert combined make one of the
finest exhibitions that has ever visited this city.
The rks-rs of Mr. NoHis alone are worth double the
price of admission, and Madam Olinza's performance
is beyond all praise. This is the last opportunity, so
go by all means.
Droth.— A n old gentleman named ,
rixsiding in Louisville, while on a unit to
who works at Shoonberger's iron works in this city.
dropped down about 12 M. yesterday, and expired
almost instantly. The Coroner held no inquest and
found a verdict of death from enlargement of toe
heart." Mr. Denny had been in delicate health for
some time past.
