Wit Taut Hamilton, It Ira /4 -- Ain a police officer;

that day and entered it; we searched around through
the house, and, in shaking a large picture, I heard
something rattle; found on the top of the frame the
pill box produced, and eighty-une spurions dollars in
it; searched -Danford and found upon him the spu

the •11 house, and went back to the house: found
the old shoe, plaster of Paris and pieces of metal

understood to be Mrs. Muney's; don't know who
Lied with her: understood she was a married woman

.Ir,bn H. Hampton addressed the jury for the de
fam•e, and was followed by U. S. District Attorney
Shaler, when ibe Court adjourned. This morning
Judge Irwin will charge the jury.
Porrroit.—We noticed yesterday in the window of
Mr. Gillespie, Wond street, a portrait of Bishop
Irronnor, of this city, by Barley. To mention the
name of barley is to pronounce a eulogium. When
ever he ventures, he wins, to his own and the entire
satisfaction of the public. The picture has been
Tainted for one of our citizens, who may justly feel
proud of his acquisition. Anything from the brush
of barley is well worth preserving. We should loot
omit mention of the most exquisite frame we ever
sow from Gillespie's. The unique designs of the
mouldings are well worth a visit, and as the frame
and picture go together, we congratulate the posses
sor of gems in their line,
Strike so the Alleyheily l'.ll/.y It.tiho.td. --Nearly
one hundred men employed on the Allegheny Valley
Railroad, this side of Kittaning, in ballasting the
road, turned out on a strike for higher wages on
Monday last. Heretofore they had been getting $1
per day, and were required to labor twelve hours :
they wish to work only ten hours, for which they
demand $l,lO. Mr. A. J. Hopper, the Superintend
ent, considers this demand exhorbitant, inasmuch as
the came class of laborers on roads in the neighbor
hood get less than one dollar per day.

store from No. 22 Fifth, to No. 212 bitterly street-,
where he is prepared to wait on his friends and cur--

large and well selected stock of Clothing, which he
intends to sell at the very lowest cash prices, and

United States Grand "Jury, .—This body was dis
charged yesterday morning, having passed upon all
the bills sent before them by the District Attorney.
The foreman handed iu a presentment to the Court,
in which the miserable state of the roof of the Cue
tutu House was referred to, and the government re
commended to have it repaired at once. The build
ing cost some $BO,OOO, and the roof is now in such a
state that the upper story is scarcely fit for occupancy.
Judge Irwin bad the document read, and then in
formed the grand jury that the suggestions it con
tained should be attended to. He would have the
paper forwarded to the proper authorities in Wash
ington, and would also have it published. The grand
jury were then discharged.
Strnnge Dionprenennee nf tun, Children. - On last
Thursday.week two children named Cox, one five and
be other seven years of ago, strayed from the resi
dence of their parents, in Union township, Bedford
county, and up to yesterday morning had not been
heard from. Their disappearance has caused, we
loam from residents of that county, great excite
ment, so much so that thousands of the citizens of
Bedford and Cambria counties have been induced to
search and traverse nearly every inch of terri
tory in the two counties. Deer and bears have been
captured, but no trace of the missing children, whose
parents are in a state bordering upon insanity. No
incident on the Alleghenies has caused more excite
ment than the above. We shall be glad to record
the recovery of the children.
The List of Coe(aimed Parkogrr remaining in the
Adams Express Company's office advertised iu another
column, and which is to be sold on the Ist of nett
July, if not called fur, reminds us of a number sold
in Cleveland last Thursday. The unclaimed bag
gage of the Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati Roil
road wee on that day auctioned off and drew a great
crowd of spectators together, each one anxious to buy
a hidden treasure. Some bought bargains, and oth
ers 11. r. " Among the former was a trunk and min •
tents worth $lO3, f 01425; a chest of tools worth $75
for $7,:01; and a satchel containing a suit of eliithe,
and a $175 watch. for $1,3t1. It is needless to say
that after this sale satchels were at a premium.
Th,,, who lore to see ease and grace personified
should not fail to visit, this afternoon or to night,
the Floating Palace, at the foot of St. ('lair _trees.
Last evening, from ten to fifteen hundred persons
witnessed, with mingled emotions of delight and
wonder, the graceful and daring performances of
Madame Olinta, on the tight rope. Two more per
formances only will tie given on this side of the
river. On Friday morning the Palace, with its Mad
of curiosities, will float to Sligo, there to astonish
and electrify the natives.

and in others effected a decided cure.
When eminent physicians prescribe, and their pattemts so
unhesitatingly recommend, surely wo may came t doubt,
and eagerly test its 'virtues for ourselves.
FEVER AND AGUE.
Chu, of Eight Months' Sanding , Cured by Barham Wel
land Bitters.—Michnol Kelly, No. 117 Grant, near Smithfield
street, says: "Last July, while running on the river, l on a
cotton boat plying between Natchez and New Orleans, wee
taken with fever and ague. For eight long months Letdfored
with this dreadful disease. The greater part of this time I
was unable to work, and spent at least fifty dollars for dif
ferent medicines, but I found no permanent relief. Three
weeks ago, one of my friends insisted upon my trying Boer
have's Rolland Bitters, saying that a cure was sructivinteed.
After taking it for ono week, I must state I was a sound
man. I have been at work now for two weeks, and have
had no return of the chills and fever whatever."
1 the above statement is true.

HEADACHE AND DEBILITY.,
Mr. Silas Liacomb, of Birmingham, says: "I have found
in Eberhardt, Bitters a remedy for 'headache and debility.
My wife hoe slob used It with the greatest benefit."
Mr. A. S. Nicholson, of Pittsburgh, also remarks that he
has experienced much relief from its use for headache.
BEAD TIMM
A Hollander's Datimony.—Jacob Rinsken, living in the
Holland settlement of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, says: "After
suffering for some time the misery attending an utter pros
tration of mind and body, I have bedn retrieved, by using
Boerhavde Holland Bitters, to perfect health."
The fact of this remedy being in such Itigh repute among
the Hollanders in Wisconsin, Michigan, New York—in fact,
In every Holland settlement in the United States—argues
much in its favor.
STRENGTH AND HEALTH. R.ESTORKG.
Mr. John Davidson, living ten miles above titaburgh, an
the Pennsylvania Canal, says: "When I commenced taking
Ikenhave's Holland Bitters, I could hardly walk—now, I
enjoy excellent health."
WEAKNESS OP THE STOMACH' AND INDIGESTION.
Another Great Cure Effected by Boerktive's Holland Bitters.
—The wife of Peter De Witte, living in Holland Town, She
boygan county, Wisconsin, suffered much from weakness of
the stomach and indigestion. She had been under a physi
cian's care for some time, but the disease seemed to baffle
even his skill. She purchased some Holland Bitters at our
office, which has given tone to her stomach, her appetite and
strength are returning, and wo firmly believe that this
another great cure effected by your medicine.
We have still to record many wonderful cures effected by
this remedy, but must wait another opportunity. One thing
you con rely upon, what we have published are from persona
much respected in our community, and are literally true.

NERVOUS AND RELEITMATIC AFFECTIONS.
