Clair 'Hotel by the private entrance on Penn street. Exriting Scene.—Penn street, it. the vicinity of Water was in a great state of perturbation ou Sun day afternoon, caused by a drunken or insane man firing a revolver repeatedly into a crowd of men and boys who were following him for thb purpose of de priving him of his personal liberty. The fellow's name was Bernard O'Conor. He had been perambu lating the streets during the afternoon with a revol ver in his hand, which be would point at persona whom be met, threatening to shoot. When he got to the corner of Penn and Wayne streets, ho met three young men, at the breast of one of wham he proson•A his pistoL They followed him, an 4 were soon joined by others, and by the time he got to the corner of Penn and Pitt streets, the crowd was quite large. Here ho turned doliberately round and fired twice at his pursuers, but luckily no one was hit• He then run to Water street, and again fired twice, with a similar result, and rushed into n small house near the corner. It Idennan Donaldson followed hint, end tucested the fellow just as be was preparing to comotout. He was committed by that magistrate for thi, ty days in default of a fine of $25. Yester day morning another information for assault and battery was lodged against O'Conor by George Hall, one of the young men whom be had threatened. o'. toner was possibly laboring:under mania-a-patuj: at coy rate, he was under the influence of liquor. Not ,rartty Correct.—Oar attention has been called to the report of our neighbor of the D:yeich, of the way yang (lions rake received the verdict of the jury. It sr it se that before it was road, "the prisoner exhib ited the utmost coldness," but that immediately alter, he underwent a sudden change ; his face became iishy pale; his limbs quivered, almost refusing to suppoi t 10m, " This agonizing description would on!y be amusing to those who witnessed the scene. The prisoner was no doubt surprised at the verdict, and changed color somewhat, but the "ashy pale ness " and quire' ing, " are pure imagination. It may not be amiss here to remark of the trial, that if it was a case of wrong on the one side, it is also a case of hardeiiiip on the other; not wholly for the prisoner, however, but for his relatives. Young Greatrake, we understand, has bten the principal support of a mother now nearly sixty years of age, and a widowed sister. That he should thus have become amenable to the law, is a matter of pity for all concerned. _ Panel Mirocc—Louisa. Johnson and Josephine Coffre--hoth ladies of the darkest hue—were &nested and committed to jail, yesterday, for robbing'Andrew McDonald of one hundred dollars, under the follow ing circumstances: Mr. McDonald was in the pur suit of a " help," when about 11 A. She conducted him into her house, when ono of the parties arrested rushed from behind a door, and thrusting her hand into his rest pocket, extracted therefrom the amount before men tioned.
