The Republicans claim the passage of Dunn's resolutions, to send a committee of three mem bers of Congress out to Kansas to make a full in vestigation of everything connected with its in ternal difficulties, as a triumph ; but this is nut exactly correct, as the plan of the Republican leaders was voted down by a considerable major ity. The reaolutions were generally opposed by the Dimmer:we members, not because they wished ri‘ obi an investigation of these matters, but for the reason that it had !editing whatever to do ith the .itiitested idecti, oti case, and whatever the re-oft might he it coul.l not have the Manliest bearing upon the weriL of Reeder's claim. It t f ,..;.cs but little dillerence, however, in•,the end, whether the investigation should grow out of chi.. or some other matter ; the Republicans had de termined to have it, so let thou now go ahead. ttii- 1, all 1 lin • The members of the commission have not been announce4,but it is generally reported that Dunn and Hickman will two of them, and Stephens, of thorgia, or Oliver, of Missouri, the third— being two Anti-Nebraska and one Nebraska man. They are clothed with must ample powers to carry out the examination, having clerks, sergeant-at arms, and ten thousand dollars, as auxiliaries. It will probably consume two or three months, and the report make a thick volume of a thousand pages. The House will scarcely reach a decision this session ; indeed, it is questionable whether the Black Republicans desire a settlement of the !natter now; they prefer to keep it an open issue for use in the Presidential election. This, to the hope of rbalizin i g large profits from the stock of the Emigrant Aid Society, are the only interest these politicians have in the matter : Kansas is nothing, except so far as motley or political position can be made out of it. An amendment, or rather a modification of the tariff, has been reported in the Senate, which, it it: said, proposes some alterations of much im portance in levying the duties on imports. No reduction is contemplated upon the articles of coal and iron, elthough a very strong lobby is now operating here to procure the'?introduction of railroad iron free of duty, and the repayment of all the revenue collected on that article for several years. The duty On sugar anti stilt is to be reduced, and many articles used by manufactur ers trill be exempted from duty altogether. These are the general features only : when the bill hats been printed, the commercial interests will be able to comprehend more exactly the extent of the changes proposed. It is astonishing how seldom any -emark is heard respecting the nomination of Fillmore anti litinelson. Yet the Organ declares them to have been nominated by aclitmation So poor 'an effort to Mak° an impression upon the public mind, not on the records of history. If this ticket be not withdrawn before the election, the result it twill remain as a monument of the fully of decayed politicians to impose upon the pub lic, and to build tip a party without resting it upon sound and enduring principles. Even Southern Know Nothings are deserting. See Albert l'ike's card in yesterday's Union. The iminy-faced platform has driven him, as it will drive thousands , oj others, out of the Know Nothing ranks. A the time approaches for a fair opening of the ianvass, it becomes more anti more a?parent that the real issue is between the Democrats and the Black Republicans; that if candidates of one of the parties are not elected, a choice will devolve upon the House of Repre sentatives. The Know Nothings and old line Whigs may each present a ticket, but neither can carry more than a few electoral votes—per haps not n single vote. The Whigs are taking steps to re-organize the old party, but it won't amount to much ; - life Whig party has performed its mission, and is now among the things that once existed.
