Bill.
Mr. Clayton then proceeded to finish his remarks
on Central American Affairs. Ile stated On the au
thority of Mr. Vanderbilt, President of the Transit
Company. that there never had horn any art on Om

ferred to Walker's seizure of the Company's property,
amounting to nearly a million of dollars, and read a
letter from Mr. Vanderbilt to Mr. Marcy, in which
the former asks the interposition of the government
for redress. The seizure was mmle on the ground
that the Company was indebted to Nicaragua, and
denied such indebtedness and refused to submit the
matter to the award of arbitrators. These charges
are utterly Wisc. With regard to the .-ettlement of

been made; arbitration could not countenanced,
