clown, yesterday, at the cabinet warerooms of Mr.
J. W. Woedwell, Third street, a magnificent side
board, manufactured for a gentleman in Ilirming
ham, u hich is probably the finest piece of furniture
ever made in this city. It is finished after the
Italian style, and will be a beautiful ornament for a
dining room. The exterior is covered with fish,
game, and other appropriate designs, elegantly
carved out of the solid wood. The workmanship is
superb, and reflects credit on the designe% It will
remain in the cabinet rooms for a few days. where
those who desire to take a look at this fine speoimen
of Pittsburgh manufactures, can he gratified.

A communication was received from David Dren
nen, Weigh Master, which stated that the Hay
Scales had been repaired, and wore now in good

A resolution requesting our delegates in the Leg
islature to oppose the passage of an act making the
city responsible for damages. in the alteration of
grades of streets, was read a third time and passed.
Communications wore received from Senators Wil
kins and M'Clintock. directing the attention of Coun
cils to the fact that bills relating to the Pennsylvania
Railroad and Pittsburgh and Steuhenville Railroad,
were before the Legislature. The communication
about the latter was referred to a special committee.
A resolution offered by Mr. Kemmerer, Fifth Ward,
requiring the city solicitor to inquire whether the',
Pennsylvania Railroad had fulfilled ell their con
tracts with the city, was read three times and passed:"

from Committee on Territories, reported a bill author
izing the people or Kansas to form a constitution for
State Government, preparatory to admission into the
Union, when she shall have the requisite populating . ).

relative to the British construction of the Clayton
Pulwer Treaty, and Central American affairs gener

lieved no railroad to the Pacific would be built fur
many years to come. If such it road be made, it
would not answer the purposes which we desire and
slipuld obtain by n passage to the Isthmus. lie ap
proved of the whole conduit of the administration
relative to the 4.llrulties with England. Ile eulo
gised 'Messrs. Marry and Buchanan's State Papers,
and wit, gratified at the energy with which the ad
ministration had put down filibustering scheme' ; he
denounced NValker as a minim, buccaneer andbiratc.
Mr. Clayton tens no partizan of the President's, but
when our foreign relations are eonductetl with signal
ability, he was willing to give the administration the
eretlit.
